Prolia plus forteo

Posted by bealillie @bealillie, May 12 1:41am

I've been recommended to take Forteo in addition to my prolia injections. Doctor says that my hip has improved. The spine has not, and so that was the reason given.I did not start because I don't like injecting myself but mostly because I'm afraid of side effects. I have a chronic pain condition that started two years ago, has gotten worse getting worse and I don't and I feel like even the prolia injection, which previously did not cause any side effects causes a lot of pain for me. Is it important to take both ?

Are you saying that your doc wants you take the two at the same time or sequentially ? Also, don't know if this will relieve your worries about self administering forteo. I took it for two years. The needle is tiny. I never felt it go in. After first two I didn't even think about it. Just part of the daily routine.

I wonder if you could share a bit more information? Dexa scores, your age, which drugs you've already tried and outcome and sequence in which you've taken them. Are you seeing an endocrinologist or a doctor who is experienced and trained in the treatment of osteoporosis. Thanks

Im now 77. I dont know my score. I have a rheumatologist at Arthritis and Rheumatism in Bethesda MD for many years. I did reclast for 2 years. Then at my last appt I showed up with a broken wrist. She said I needed bone building. Having heart trouble Im not eligible for Evenity. So Forteo was the ticket all things considered (prolia ruled out). I got violently ill. I had no side effects with Reclast. They are putting me back on it. Does this information help you in any way?
PS I may have said wo the broken wrist it would have been a year off reclast

Thanks. It always feels like the larger picture if osteoporosis and it's treatment gets more understandable when we all share what our history and experiences with it. I wonder if it might be useful for you to have your latest dexa scores. How long since you've had one? Any way I have gotten so much knowledge and wisdom here. I only wish that I'd had it before getting treatment.

How is this helpful? I wonder why you asked if I have a legit MD. Im curious like you are

I assumed you have a physician but since you asked, many of us have asked about physicians and which docs to look for to treat osteoporosis. I am always learning on this site and learn so much from those who share lots. Things are always changing and I need information to be the best advocate for my care. Does this answer your question? Of course each of us should only share as much or as little as we are comfortable sharing.

@gravity3 I had a dexa that day i got the forteo. I didn't save the numbers. Same as year b4 a little less. The broken wrist triggered it. Hopefully something im not allergic to will be developed

@gravity3 i thought tymlos same as forteo basically? It was not suggested and perhaps not covered by my ins. I have had a heart attack in 2018 so the black box warning on Evenity applies directly to me. It can kill me.
