Total knee replacement

Posted by ar7 @ar7, Jan 2, 2020

I am one year out from total knee replacement and my knee pops when I move it. Anyone else have this?

Hi Helen,

I'm guessing they used an "aquacell" bandage (waterproof). over the incision. It's pretty common to see some bleeding appear under the bandage, coming from the area of the incision. If the blood doesn't reach the very end of the bandage, and if there is no redness, swelling, fever or pain it's usually ok.

That said, when it doubt have it checked out. Seeing your surgeon is a great idea, and hopefully all is well!

Greetings, I am just about 4 months post op LTKR, I experienced femoral nerve damage from a failed knee nerve block, which caused my quad muscle to go to sleep for 3 and1/2 months. Due to this my quad atrophied and I am stuck at a -10 for my extension my flexion ranges from 103 to 105. My surgeon inside Kaiser has stated she will not do a MUA for extension but will consider a revision in Jan 2027 when its been a year post op. In the meantime I am still doing PT and incorporated swimming to help strengthen my quad, but If I cant extend, I cant get the full benefits. Has this ever happened to anyone in this group? I have requested a second opinion as this makes no sense to me at all.

I have to agree with you that without a much better explanation, it doesn't make sense to me to do a revision -- how will that change the nerve damage or quad muscles? It doesn't sound like there are issues with the fit of the prosthesis itself, although maybe you can't tell if you can't move normally? Seems like more cutting would just irritate the area some more. A MUA would be less invasive, definitely seek a 2nd opinion.

@heyjoe415 I had the wound checked out. A little blood oozin out . Told not to worry by surgeon. Disinfected site and put on new impercious, bandage. Plan to go to physio tomorrow. Going to ask before i stretch and cause bleeding. Walking 30 minute walks outside and getting lovely care by my husband. Taking 81 mg aspirin instead of 325 mg. On antibiotic. Plan to remove bandage so wound will dry out for 6 days before i visit surgeon.

I had a TKR on Sept 4, 2024. I was diagnosed with Patellar Clunk Syndrome and had scar tissue removed December 2024. Now it's back and I'm scheduled for another scar tissue removal in June. Has anyone else had this problem?

@rightkneereplacement I have Arthrofibrosis. That is over abundance of scar tissue. But I won’t have surgery to remove it because only comes back even worse. So my flexion is 70 my pt pushing can get to 78-80 . So you all doing great . The scar tissue stops me in my tracks.

Thank you for the response. I'm going to try a massage tomorrow. I figure it can't hurt!

@helenchi Thanks for all the Likes. Physio told me i had high pain tolerance. Could do muchire than expected. Had impervious bandagevchanged to gauze one so it will dry out. See Surgeon monday morning to remove staples Told not to walk outside or indoor bike. What do you think.?
15 minutes walks with 2 canes? Stationary bike with arm levers?

@helenchi It’s great that you have a big desire to speed up your rehab by lots of moving around. But if they specifically told you not to walk outside, I’m guessing they were worried about uneven ground and possible falls at this stage of healing, leading to damage and set backs. The full rotation of the knee while on a bike is very difficult/impossible at first, and the PT person may want to supervise you at the beginning until you can do it without too much pain. If you feel you are ready to do these things, just discuss it with your PT person first, especially since you were told not to do them, it must have been for a reason.

@ddsack Thanks for the advice. I go for short walks with two canes on the sidwalk or my driveway. I have excellent balance because I usually cross country ski, hence 2 canes. Next week the physio will put us ob a recumbant bike. Again I have an exercise bike and use the moveable hand levers, skipping the pedal if I miss a stroke. I normally ride all winter in Florida and summer here. I am only taking tylenol arthritiis.
Are you a recipient of TKR? If so , how was your therapy Thankyou kindly. Love this site. It gave me knowledge before.
