I am a 19 year old female. I'm unsure when it started, but i get a faint sand-like sound when stretching my neck or just moving it in general. I feel like its gotten a bit worse as it seems almost constant now. I noticed it’s now making a snapping sound similar to a twig breaking mainly when I look up or chin tuck. i also experience those popping sounds near my my tmd even with my mouth closed.everyone online says crepitus is nothing to worry about but with everything else going on i am worried there’s only a matter of time for it to somehow get worse.I'm unsure if this could be related, but I’d experience an almost swelling/throbbing feeling on the left side of my throat that seemed to come and go.I ended up having a CT scan for my throat a week ago and everything came out fine. i was unable to tell the doctor at the time about my other concerns since she seemed to rush me out the room :(.. I'm unsure what to do now and I’ve so become hyper focused on my neck to where every day is filled with discomfort.

If you can communicate with the doctor via a patient portal, I would consider sending a message with all your concerns.

@burgerabbit you have to advocate for yourself I had an MRI a week ago and found out I have several levels of degeneration in my neck but I am also much older than you 62 years old. If your doctor doesn't listen change doctors.

@burgerabbit
The sand like sound you mention is very interesting to me as I’ve never heard of anybody else describing this and I have had it periodically since I was a teenager too. I’m in my 50s now.
