Miralax draws fluid into the gut softening stool and making it easier to evacuate. It is not a stimulant laxative and can be used long term. As water increases the stool volume, it naturally increases pressure in the colon and encourages evacuation. Usual dose 17 gm daily or nightly, but can be doubled if needed on occasion. Consistent use in the PD scenario works best for me and my gastroenterologist agrees with plan.
