Posted by bdc1677 @bdc1677, Aug 14, 2024

For those who have had their prostate removed and able to get an erection... how has sex changed? I am schedule for surgery October 3rd. I am 57... so a little freaked out.

Well, the surgery itself wasn't bad. No incision pain. The catheter was by far the worst part of the entire surgery and recovery. I did my research before the surgery... so I knew all the potential struggles. But, when I read about incontinence, I assumed it was going to be a lot of urine. For me, so far it has been minor, teaspoon to tablespoon of urine when it happens. And it has only happened 5 or 6 times in four weeks.

I was very worried about erections and dry orgasm. Erections have been better than expected. But it takes some work. Again, from everything I have read this improves over time. I am still hopeful that is the case.

Its been really hit and miss with the dry orgasm. First one was terrible. Next one better. Third wasnt that great. Sort of been the pattern. Again, hopefully something that improves over time.

When I first met with the surgeon... they focused on helping me deal with the side effects. But I havent from them since the surgery.

I am pretty sure dry orgasms will be the norm for you. Prostate and seminal vesicle removal take away all the fluids necessary to carry the sperm from the testicles.
It’s not a big deal - unless you are a porn star 😂
I will say, however, that your orgasms may even be more intense than before - more of a whole body experience.

I had mine removed 3 weeks ago, 62 years old, nerve sparing procedure, organ confined, negative margins and otherwise good path report. I have not undergone penile rehab yet and am not supposed to have an orgasm but keep getting partial erections and now nearly complete erections at the thought of having sex with my wife or making her have orgasm. I am very grateful for my medical care and have been told sex may be different but the psychological weight of getting rid of the cancer is such a relief. My wife is looking forward to my penile rehab too. We are going to make the best of it.

I am 10+ months post nerve-sparing RARP, doing the whole penile rehab thing and have some partial erections at best. 53 y.o. and perfect functioing before.

Sorry to hear that. I can already tell I will be back to 95%

I had nerve-sparing RP in January of this year. Before surgery, I had the very beginnings of ED - I could achieve an erection, I even had frequent spontaneous erections, but unless my penis was actively being stimulated one way or another, I had difficulty maintaining an erection.

After surgery…pretty much gone entirely, though I do feel rumblings down there occasionally, and I did manage about a 1/4 erection on its own, so hopefully, things improve a bit down the road.

In the meantime, I’m doing penile rehab via a pump and low-dose nightly Viagra.

@michaelhh Happy for you. I think outcomes are pretty random.

@turtbean Have you talked about taking Cialis? It has a longer half life in the body and provides more consistent bloid flow.

@topf - no, I just went with what the ED clinic prescribed. I take a 50mg dose right before bed each night, just for the blood flow.

Dr. Google says that some doctors favor the shorter duration of Viagra for penile rehab.
