Both my cardiologist and neurologist have suggested I take magnesium supplements but neither tested me for a deficiency. I think I’ll ask at my next appointment. I have soooo many food restrictions with dysphagia, afib, GERD, allergies and more that it’s not simple for me to get everything through diet but I’ll have to add up how much magnesium I think I’m getting. You provided good info though. Thanks.

@californiazebra & @loll Yes, my cardio and my rheumatologist both suggested the magnesium without testing me. Based on this discussion, I did a lot of reading about correct levels and recommended daily intake, and am now convinced my diet alone provides more than enough magnesium. I am stopping the supplement until my cardio appointment in two weeks, then will ask to be tested. Then we will explore the right dosage if I need it. Since magnesium is the modulator for a number of other nutrients, my concern is that overdosing this one element could knock other things like potassium "out of whack".
