Sudden debilitating lower back hip and pelvic pain

Posted by prd2025 @prd2025, Mar 8, 2025

About 5 days ago I had this sudden onset of pain. There was no precipitating event. It was gotten progressively worse where I cannot stand for more than a couple of minutes without the pain going to a 9 or 10. It’s both dull deep ache and the electric shock of nerve pain. It’s affecting my lower back right hip and pelvis. I cannot sit upright I have to recline. Lying on my back isn’t great either. I had something similar happen to my neck a few years ago and ended up have to replace two discs. Was also sudden. I am 46 healthy and active. I do carry some extra belly fat but all my bloodwork is excellent and I exercise every day. Now I can barely walk. Standing is the worst.

This seems like Polymialgia Rheumatica to me. It happened to me suddenly, and my rheumatologist diagnosed PMR. The first dose of methylprednisolone eased the pain, but it left me with a daily weakness in my spine. I have since been diagnosed with spinal stenosis, scoliosis and degenerative arthritis in my spine.
These ailments were there prior, but they were silent.
You need to see a rheumatologist and follow the advice, treatment offered. Good luck!

@reets70 I think you’re absolutely right. And I don’t think it ever leaves your body, at least not the same. That pain and weakness never goes completely away.

@handsdown it was diagnosed by a rheumatologist after first seeing an orthopedic surgeon. I thought the severe pain was a hip problem because I couldn’t move my leg without severe pain. One methylprednisolone pill and the pain eased enough for me to lay down. It was awful in the Beginning. Now three years later, I’m still going to PT, had six epidurals that do not work, and still on prednisone.

I have Myofascial muscle pain in whole pelvic floor. It is a ten and unrelenting. I fell a year ago and broke several bones. Recent MRI shows arthritis and levator myalgia which is high tight muscles. Pain in vaginal and rectal area. Looking at Ketamine for chronic pain and Botox shots so I can get some relieve. No mobility right now. Anyone have this problem and how did you handle it. Help!
