Anyone tried shock wave therapy for peripheral neuropathy nerve pain?

Posted by carolynmcn @carolynmcn, Dec 20, 2024

I’ve had peripheral neuropathy since 2020 after having a Covid vaccine. My pain worsens from supper time on. At bedtime, it is excruciating. I’ve tried all of the creams, even prescription creams. I’ve been on Gabapentin and Lyrica, with no change in my pain, so I am weaning off of these meds. I’ve heard horror stories about the med and withdrawal symptoms.
Has anyone here tired sh I wave therapy? My medical professional suggested it? Any advice? Thank you very much.

I’ve been getting shockwave treatments - five over the past two months. They have reduced my pain by at least 50% in this time, and my research indicates the effects will continue. Generally, 6-8 treatments are recommended. I have had idiopathic neuropathy since 2020 and the pain, especially at night, had been making it impossible to sleep for more than 3 hours at a time. I tried gabapentin and the side effects were intolerable. Amytriptilin had no effect. I can’t take ibuprofen. I was really tired to just being given pain meds and told that was the only thing my doctor could suggest.
My shockwave is performed by a physician’s assistant and costs $150 for one treatment for both feet - so I anticipate paying $900-$1050 in total. It is not painful. I’ve found that lots of chiropractors offer “shockwave” but be sure to ask them specifically if their shockwave is Focused or Radial. Radial is the most common with chiros, but it works for muscle pain but has no effect on neuropathy.
The only other thing I have found that helps is to completely cut out sugar, which in my case causes the pain to shoot up very quickly.
