@suzylulu, thank you for the kind words! I think one of the real benefits of Mayo Connect is that it brings patients together in a safe place so that they are able to share their story, learn what others are doing and ask questions they may have. I found Connect in March of 2016 while searching for help and local support groups for my peripheral neuropathy. I'm so glad I did too.

Thanks again - keep sharing and asking questions - life is a learning journey! Psst...my motto is to learn at least one new thing a day. Sadly that one new thing is sometimes something I had learned in the past. That's a great thing about being 74...senior discounts and no one expects you to remember everything!

John

I recently had outpatient surgery for sciatica in my filth leg. It's been 3 mos my condition has worsened. My doctor has scheduled another MRI & NERVE DAMAGE TEST
DID HE SCREW UP cause now I cn hardly walk. Pls reply asap pls. JOANN

Hello Joann @jk1234 -- Welcome to Connect. I don't have any medical training or background. I don't think any of us here on Connect can tell you whether your recent outpatient surgery for sciatica is the reason you can hardly walk. It's a good question but I would talk with your doctor and see what they say.

Did your doctor give you any information about recovery time from the outpatient surgery? Or physical therapy that would be helpful.

I has small fiber peripheral neuropathy and there are times when I can barely walk, especially when I just get up or have been sitting or standing for a period of time. What helps me are a few exercises and understanding that I need to be a little cautious taking those first few sometimes painful steps.

John

Joann @jk1234, I encourage you to ask your questions in this discussion group specifically talking about sciatica.
- Sciatica pain https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/sciatica-pain/

Jk1234 experience with neuropathy post intervention for sciatica is a possibility. I had back surgery for sciatica about 6 years ago. I only recently developed neuropathy and the neurologist was of the opinion that it is the result of type 2 diabetes and recommended to see an endocrinologist . My internist recommended metformin to treat both problems. I am opposed to more pharma, because the pain is tolerable except early morning getting out of bed or after long walks. I do low impact exercises in the pool which does not cause any pain. At 80 years of age things are breaking down and I don't give it another thought.
