Need for hip replacement with no hip pain?
I’ve been told I need a right hip replacement. My pain is in my thigh, not in my hip and has been getting worse for a year. I can no longer walk any more than a few feet before the pain begins. It feels more like a muscle/tendon/ligament injury. Xray showed two spurs in hip. Had an image guided cortisone injection that gave about a week of relief and then nothing. Has anyone had this experience—pain in the leg that signaled the need for a hip replacement?

The pain in my thigh started after a partial meniscectomy so I attributed that to the surgery. Knee began to feel better but pain in low back on that side only and groin pain continued. Had an AHA moment and realized it was probably my hip. Bummer. X ray didn’t show anything but MRI showed tears in labrum, high grade chondral fissuring with cysts, etc. torn hamstrings …. Probably a result of the same injury that caused the knee issue and good ‘ol aging. Received a cortisone injection prior to the MRI and the injection worked for a few days so they used that as a reference as to whether it was my spine or hip. Headed to the orthopedic surgeon this coming week for a consultation. My pain is not unbearable, still walking the dogs a couple of miles a day over hill and dell. Yard work, etc. It’s slowed me getting up and down but it’s manageable. I also started PT last week as I can tell my right side is much weaker due to baby-ing it - not wanting to cause more damage. More to follow….
