Knee replacement and osteoporosis
I’m just curious if anyone has had a joint replacement during or after osteoporosis treatment? I need a knee replacement and am on Evenity. My endocrinologist would like me to wait six months following my last treatment. I will follow his advice but Of course by then I will be on a new drug. Thanks

Curious. I just finished my 12 months on Evenity and my endocrinologist said 6 month vacation before starting prolia (not sure yet if I will be comfortable with prolia). I am 76 and had really great results with evenity. How long is your vacation and did you have good results and what will your next drug be? Thanks
I need a knee replacement and am taking Prolia, and the thought of a challenge hadn’t occurred to me! Though I hadn’t thought to mention an osteoporosis drug to my Orthopedist, nor my need for a knee replacement with my Endocrinologist.
Prolia is the only osteoporosis drug I tolerate. I’ve never had a challenge and just had my 5th injection, after having stopped to try Evenity and then Tymlos to build bone, I’ve returned to Prolia. I’m 63, and am told I’ll be on it for the rest of my life, because the ‘bone builders’ caused severe side effects.
In researching, I found the following research study finding that Denosumab (Prolia), actually is beneficial with knee replacements specifically!

Interpretation
Denosumab reduces early migration in total knee replacement, as in previous trials using bisphosphonates. As migration is related to the risk of late loosening, denosumab may be beneficial for long-term results.

1 ReactionNope. I’ve not had any side effects with Prolia, and hope the never happens. My endocrinologist said they’ve never had any of their patients experience any side effects from Prolia, which made me feel better about starting it. I can’t take anything else. Tried it all, and experienced negative side effects, so Prolia is all I’ve got. I’ll be on it the rest of my life.

2 Reactions@findtheanswersdn I had severe side effects from prolia, extreme fatigue, extreme nasal congestion and worse allergies, dry mouth lips, skin and a few more. Dr told me not to take next shot, only had one and to increase calcium and Vit D. I am very sensitive to meds and usually take half dose which works for me and fine with my Dr., I gues this does not come in a smaller dose.

I have not had any noticeable side effects with Prolia.
