Reoccurrence: Radiation vs Cryotherapy?

Posted by smitmn @smitmn, 21 hours ago

Within 2 years from my prostatectomy, my PSA is up to .27 and a CT PET shows a small lesion near the badder neck and very near the rectal wall. Radiation with hormone therapy has been recommended by at least four different providers, including Mayo. Mayo also said they could do Cryotherapy but cautioned it is very close to the rectal wall. I am pondering risks and length of treatment for both and would appreciate any words of wisdom and first hand experiences. Thank you

You have to go by what the radiation oncologist tells you they can do. I had a metastasis wrapped around my spine on the L4. They did radiation to the weakened joint, in three doses, so it wasn’t too strong to damage the spine and it seemed to have worked well.

You should do this, it can take your PSA back down. That’s really what you’re looking for.

Ask the radiation oncologist can this be done to the existing Lesion without damaging anything else.

If not, then you should get on ADT and an ARPI to get your PSA back down and stop it from growing.

That’s a real 50/50 deal either way, isn’t it? Just being close to the rectal wall is risky no matter what you choose.
ADT will shrink it for sure, but then what do you do to snuff it out and not get hurt in the process?
What type of radiation are they recommending - IMRT or in combo with SBRT?
