My experience is Urologists push the procedure they or their practice is qualified to perform. The TURP you describe is effective but does have side effects, specifically retrograde ejaculation. Have you considered Aquablation? It has a much lower chance of RE. I would at least consider it. I had a large median lobe which was obstructing my prostate like ball valve. I had aquablation in September, recovery was quick and results very good. There may be a very good reason he recommended TURP, just offering potential alternative and recommendation for second opinion, once it's done you can't undo it. There are less invasive options, but would work for a large median lobe. I wish I had aquablation years ago. All of these procedures sound scary, but delaying will only make it worse.
