Does any neurologist prescribe Alpha Lipoic Acid?
R-ALA features very heavily on this forum as a potential remedy for peripheral neuropathy. Does any Neurologist actually prescribe it.

@SusanEllen66 Thank you for that message! You bring an insider's experience which is much appreciated.
I try to research as much as I can about the companies whose products I buy. If the company claims certain certifications, I try to ensure as best I can that they are legitimate. For example, HMS Nutrition claims its R Alpha Lipoic Acid is from a National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) certified facility. And that the quality is assured by Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). There are other websites with good information about sketchy companies and products.
I know it is essential that consumers, of supplements especially, take seriously the classic admonition, Let The Buyer Beware!
According to the Wikipedia entry about R ALA, ninety per cent of world supply is manufactured in China. HMS Nutrition packages it in the U.S.
A final aside, the GLP-1 which I take for diabetes is from Eli Lily and Company. It is still on patent, not a generic. The cartridge states that the drug is manufactured in China - but put into the cartridge in the U.S.

@itsmeagain
That’s right.
@trishdub I take 300 mg 3x day. I think it helps. Definitely doesn’t hurt!
@itsmeagain agreed! My doc recommended it years ago. I do my best to find high quality products. Do your homework and research for sure! Stay away from bulk buying stores. Unfortunately, this is likely one of the you get what you pay for items. Just like high quality omegas and fish oils. The farm raised cheap products can do more harm than good.
Hi all, I just had an aha moment.
Kosher vitamins.
Kosher products are made under strict rules.
There are Kosher supplements and herbs sold on Amazon, and other places.

1 Reaction@kathyv66 I had tingling on side of neck and down to upper part of upper chest off and on. The natural form 600 mg a day did the trick. No pain, just tingling , nerve related. I use AOR with sodium and biotin, since R Lipoic acid can drain the biotin. At first I used 600 mg a day, now I have cut it down to 150mg - 300 mg. It’s a wonderful antioxidant.
@aunttonipage AOR
I attached a photo of brand I buy.
Use caution if you have acid reflux disease… it is an acid. My physiatrist prescribed it for my PN. Said it worked wonders for his situation. I gradually increased by dose each month as prescribed but when I got to the 1800mg ‘effective’ dose, I had reflux and that burning sensation like I have never had it before..ever. It was not for me.
@cleveland26 Not fully it damaged them. It seems my drug allergies were are getting worse.
