Severe Pain After Every Bowel Movement

Posted by Blzeitlin @blzeitlin, Nov 10, 2012

I can't take this anymore. It has been almost 2 years and the doctors can't find anything. Whenever I have a bowel movement I am crippled for hours, many hours in pain and completely fatigued. CT Scans show nothing. My small bowel ruptured last year and I had major surgery. 6 months later I had surgery for an obstruction in my bowel. I don't believe they are related as I had the pain after bowel movements prior to the first surgery. I also have Diverticulous BUT not in the colon...my diverticulitis attacks have been in the small bowel. Anyway, I told you all of this just to give you all of the information...does anyone have any experience with stomach pain AFTER bowel movements? I really need help. Cleveland clinic Florida says they don't know what it is. Thank you

Well... I have been in Mexico. Now they have a special motility specialist so i know I can get help with this if what I am currently doing doesn't help reverse this condition. I had a Sphincterotomy and that really helped the extreme pressure that I had in my anal sphincter. I couldn't even sleep due to the pressure. I was hoping the Mayo would look and explore my back (nerve conduction studies) due to all the problems I am am having and feeling neurological issues as well. I have since had a double spinal fusion with two titanium disk in my lumbar actually a month ago yesterday. I also need a a cervical double fusion. I am waiting still for a consultation from Duke due to having more questions regarding my thoracic... I have more issues in there that I need to get clarification on if I can.
Motility wise the Sphincterotomy did help me, I had asked Mayo about doing that procedure and a previous proctologist here where I live and they said no. I wish this was done 6 years ago... my health and sanity would have been better. The surgeon who did this also had me use Nulytely which is a colonoscopy prep medication in small amounts and that helped to heal. Otherwise, I am using MiraLAX daily and a stool softener.
I am hoping the back procedure will help my situation, but with the years of compression it will be a couple of years before i know 100 percent what has improved. Good luck. It is been two years since I was there.

I know it’s been a couple of years but did you have any success at Mayo? I’m experiencing the same issues and was planning to go to Mayo in Arizona…

I have defecating problems as well. It always feels like a band coiling tighter and tighter around the same time each day around 3 pm whether I eat or don’t eat but when I have the dreaded bowel movement that band is going to get worse and I’m done for several hours. There has not been a day in over 2 years that I haven’t been normal around the abdomen especially on my RIGHT side. I have seen various GI’s and they lean into my first diagnosis POST INFECTION IBS. No medication works

I am just glad i didn't get bag because that's the only option Mayo Clinic offered. .. so thankful to have the Sphincterotomy and will go to PT here if needed. The Mayo has a very specific program and I don't think many people get chosen and I have read where someone went through it and it didn't work. It is with a balloon... make sure if you get PT they do this or it isn't the proper PT.
