I’m stage 4 CKD and I know what has brought me here. I was on lithium when I was 25 for my BiPolar disease. I wasn’t on it that long, but long enough to put my kidneys into a slow decline causing now at the age of 67 I’m stage 4. It’s been frustrating dealing with this knowing there was nothing I could do to stop it. I just watch what I put in my mouth and I control my weight.

I’m also stage 4 after 40 years on lithium. My kidneys held out all those years but started to decline in 2014. My eGFR is 19 and I’m in the process of qualifying for a kidney transplant. It took a while to agree since I’m 68 years old. I’m told having scarred tubules, no proteinuria, normal BP and I’m not diabetic, my kidneys could hang in there for awhile. But all it takes is a serious infection and that changes everything. Best wishes to your journey.
