Sciatic pain
I was hospitalized on 9/11/25 for sciatic pain. I have never felt such pain, and nothing I did prompted this, that I know of.
I’ve had several MRI’s but I can’t seem to find help. ( narrowing in the nerve I guess)
I am starting to believe I have to live with this.
I live in a small town and so far I’ve only seen a nurse practitioner and had PT. The Np said I should get some square thing put into my nerve, that seems odd to me, a foreign object put into my body.
Any suggestions would be so appreciated. I have 5 grandkids, and I can barely move after being with them. And I might add, they mean the world to me; I will never stop being there for them.

@quietriver Where do you get the liquid turmeric? Could you share the brand here, or is that not allowed? I chew a turmeric gummy every morning.... but I can't tell a great difference. I take the blood thinner Eliquis, so I have to be careful with any supplements. Are either of you on a blood thinner? Thanks! Best regards! Mike

1 Reaction@cghernand Perhaps the "square thing" was the battery pack for a spinal cord stimulator that some people have implanted for nerve pain??? I've read of mixed success with it from different people. How did they treat your sciatica in the hospital? Were they able to relieve most of the pain before you were discharged? I have lower back pain... and occasionally some sciatica. I've done PT. I see a chiropractor regularly. And I occasionally get a massage. But that's expensive so I can't do it too often. I know there are exercises on youtube for helping with sciatica if you have not checked there. Living with constant pain is tough. I wish you well! Mike

1 ReactionHi!
They mostly treated it with pain medication. I also had PT and 2 MRI’s while inpatient.
I believe the square thing is a spacer for the SI joint infusion. I’m still on the fence because I have a bleeding disorder.
All and all, turmeric and Utube yoga has been the most helpful.
I’m in constant pain, however, I am getting a second opinion April 16th.
I wish you the best. Living with pain is so incredibly difficult. 😞

2 ReactionsA few years ago my daughter had it so bad. She slept on her hardwood floor, as she couldn't stand the bed. She had back surgery, and has never had any more issues. That was about 12 years ago.

1 ReactionI have a feeling I’m headed down that path too. Prayers to her!
@domiha thank you!
@flimzyreed47 what brand of turmeric supplement do you recommend?
Have you tried gabapentin? Myself, my mother, and brother, suffer from sciatica pain and all of us got 100% relief from it!
There are side effects but, for us, they are doable!
A little looseness for about two hours and if I’m not ‘busy’ like watching TV or reading, it will make me sleepy.
HOWEVER, the trade off for no pain is worth it and I’ve learned how to ‘navigate’ around the side effects!😉
I have a lumbar fusion that is 25 years old, I now suffer with extreme post lumbar pain. I get caudal injections. At the base of your spine they insert a needle and go way up your spinal column. As they remove it they drop steroids. I am lucky because I am pain free for about a year - others will be less. It is a little uncomfortable but only takes a few minutes to the injection. It’s worth the try! I am typically terrified to put on socks or underwear for fear of “throwing my back out”. These injections help with that more than anything.
I'm glad to know that many have pain. I have hypertrophy in the top thigh on my right leg and severe degenerative disc L4-L5 & L5-S1 and moderate in L2-L3 with a possible pinched nerve. Tylenol is what I was told to take. I've been trying physiotherapy but haven't had much luck. Right now I can't even bear weight on my left leg without screaming.
I try to avoid Tylenol because it messes up my bowel and stomach so I'm at a loss and sometimes the pain is almost more than I can stand. I feel my life is over and I'm only 74
