I am 4 weeks out from having my Thyroidectomy. I had papillary carcinoma fortunately it was caught early but only because I pushed my doctor's to do extra testing on me even though my thyroid tests for TSH and T4 were within normal range. However since 2024 I was having symptoms that led me to believe that my thyroid was not working the way it should. I looked on MyChart and looked at my thyroid levels graph and from 2013 to 2024 it was a steady line. But from 2024 thru 2026 February even though the graph had me within normal limits it was just barely normal and it was up high then down low then high, etc. the graph told me everything I needed to know I knew I was right about my thyroid. So my endocrinologist finally ordered an ultrasound and they found a nodule a little less than a centimeter and then I asked firmly for a biopsy which they tried to talk me out of saying that it more than likely wasn't cancer. I insisted that I have a biopsy, guess what I had papillary carcinoma within 2 weeks they removed my thyroid and told me it was very good that I listened to my body and did the research. Fortunately it was stage 1 but had I listened to my doctor's who knows at what stage it would be if they even pursued a biopsy. So always remember: the baby who cries the loudest gets fed! And listen to your gut. After surgery I am experiencing tiredness and joint pain I am hoping with medication adjustments this will get better. I have also made an appointment with a functional medicine doctor. They are much more thorough and dive deep to find out not just what you have but also use natural mixed with traditional medicine. My endocrinologist whom I really love tested my blood for about 4 or 5 tests. My functional medicine doctor tested me for 150 blood tests that test all kinds of issues with the human body. I really recommend getting the blood tests it cost $245 but it revealed a number of issues I have that are now being treated and I feel confident about my health again. Sorry for the long message but if you get nothing else out of it don't be afraid to put your foot down with your doctor when they were telling me they didn't think it was cancer I asked them to put in writing that it was not cancer that I have. Of course they thought I was out of my mind but since they would not put a guarantee in writing then I demanded to be biopsied. We do this written contract with a lot of aspects of our life , why not our health??

@lkildare1 Thank you for your response. How are you feeling? I am so glad to hear you advocated for yourself. I wish everyone would do that. It seems as though you and I have been on the same path. I, too, have seen a functional medicine doctor when I wasn't getting any answers from my "traditional" doctors. You are right the lab work is amazing. I am on a bunch of supplements. I would love to hear how you are doing after surgery as well as the course you are on with the functional medicine doctor. Take care!
