Abilify

Posted by yanks950 @yanks950, Mar 11, 2025

I was upped to 120mg of duloxetine and 30mg of buspar. It helped for a little and then I went back. After talking to my doc he prescribed me 5mg of Abilify. What are your experiences. Scared to start a new med especially while I’m feeling horrible already.

Does anyone know whether being elderly (age 77) means that you should reduce the dose of abilify? I have been doing well on 4 mg day for depression but couldn't sleep when I went down to 2 mg., per my shrink' s advice. And I went back to 4 mg.

Hi @carrie96 - welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I moved your post here to where others were already discussing aripiprazole (Abilify) so that they could interact with you about your question on whether older adults need a lower dosage of this medication.

Hoping members such as @christine5 @beck0584 @kb2014 and others will have some input on your level of sleep with changing your dose.

What did your doctor say about age and your dosage? Or have you by chance asked the pharmacist who filled your prescription?

I have been on Abilify 30 mg for many, many years.
I don't know about at your age. Im 56, I had to come off because it had seemed to have stopped working. We reduced eventually to ten milligrams. But I had to go back to fifteen because of problems.I was having with my mood.
I think so long as it's working, you don't need to decrease it. I think that if something happens. And you end up with dementia that might be a problem, but if you just stay, you, you should be fine.

I've been having some slight balance problems, and he said that the cerebellum is affected by these drugs more as we get older. Haven't asked the pharmacist.
