Has anyone else discovered that lettuce is excellent for acid reflux?

Posted by hsroka15 @hsroka15, 2 days ago

I have had stomach acid and stomach problems for 16 years and have been diagnosed with the following:! Gerd, reflux, hiatal hernia, and ulcers.

I have recently discovered that eating lettuce is the most helpful thing I can eat to get rid of my acidic stomach symptoms. Has anyone else had luck with lettuce??

@hsroka15 do you mean soft lettuce as in lettuce head?

@snoots yes but romaine lettuce is awesome too. Lettuce and broccoli help me the most.

Yes! I found Salad greens are great. I just read an article in AARP newsletter saying the same. Also Salmon is good or other low fat meats. Yogurt is good also. Avoid acid foods, eat fiber in meals is helpful too. Carbonated beverages also aggravate GERD.

Good comments about the lettuce. It's sort of an underrated food. It's actually packed with vitamins and minerals, really good for our bones., loaded with antioxidants. And then there's all the great stuff you can put in a salad. On the weekend, I've been making up eight individual salads for lunch during the week. I call them "to stay or go" salads since they can be taken to work or eaten at home. I have had acid reflux for years. The pantoprazole worked very well for me, but I am trying to get off of it now since we're not supposed to stay on it long term. Sometimes taking it is necessary though to let all the acid damage heal. Best of health to you, LL

@llmartin salad is good for us…when i was recovering from gut surgery, I started with Boston Bibb lettuce and some of the soft curly types…I only did spinach by putting baby leaves in soup…well cooked veggies, especially carrots and string beans… some people cook veggies and put them in the blender.
