We're all working toward the same healthy goal! I think these ideas will work well with any diet plan you are following. Any thoughts?

@rosemarya Thanks, Rosemary. Some good tips there. I really do not watch TV much so that one is not very applicable, and I do my exercises at my club and in my bedroom (recumbent bike) but I do have my lunch in front of the computer. Since I make the salad ahead of time I would be eating the same amount whether or not I was in front of the computer.
I try to keep fruits in and eat them, I am on a huge strawberry roll right now so of course those cannot be kept on the counter. In fact my lunch salad generally consists of greens, strawberries, goat cheese, some chicken, and Braswell Raspberry Vinaigrette. If you have Braswell dressings in your local stores they are delicious. The two I like are the one I mentioned, and the Vidalia peppercorn one.
I also always check out the menus and choose ahead what I will get, that really does help.
We are going away this weekend, leaving tomorrow until Sunday, with another couple to Bar Harbor in Maine. We always pack some snacks for the room and I have those little carrots and celery sticks, along with some cheese and nuts.

Speaking of strawberries, do you know if you give them a white vinegar bath, then rinse them, they keep much longer? The vinegar kills any spores on the strawberries. I think it's supposed to be one part vinegar to 8 parts water but I just put them in a bowl with water and dump in some vinegar. It leaves no vinegar taste. You can do that with many berries, just not the really fragile ones like raspberries.

@contentandwell, Thanks for the tip about the white vinegar bath for the berries. I am going to check into that for sure!
My biggest difficulty is that I want to munch anytime that I am sitting still and my hands are unoccupied. In the winter I knit/crochet but now the currently pleasant porch sitting weather changes my desire to do those projects! I like the prepared salad idea that you use for computer sitting time! That sets a limit on what you eat. Thanks for sharing.
Enjoy your weekend! Rosemary

@contentandwell Hi Jane:

Like Rosemary said, I had never heard of the white vinegar bath before - great idea! I'll give it a try with my next batch of berries. I just love Connect - I'm always learning something new.

Teresa

@contentandwell those are great ideas! I am going to use the vinegar rinse when I buy my berries this weekend. 🙂 Have a fun trip!

@rosemarya I forgot to mention, you do rinse them afterward. I have actually seen sites where they do not mention rinsing but other sites do mention it and I just figure I do not want a vinegar taste. I suppose if you choose to not rinse you could use a more tasteful vinegar, like champagne vinegar or something.
I did it to blueberries today and they were great, no vinegar taste.

We got home yesterday from our weekend away. I was sick yesterday morning so we did get a slightly late check out because I wasn't sure if I could make the five hour drive. We considered staying an extra night, would have to have changed rooms since they were pretty booked, but it was a thought. Other than being sick it was a great weekend. I attached the view from our room. We love it there.

This is now the third time I have had this problem in a month. I wake up with stomach pains and then have really bad diarrhea (sorry if TMI) and then start vomiting also. This continues until there is no way there is anything left, and of course leaves me totally spent. I am still recovering from that today. Has anyone else had that problem? I am assuming it is not connected with my immunosuppressants or anything else about my transplant. My husband and son immediately got concerned that it could be about rejection but I am certain it is not. Oddly, there is not a sheet in my large three-ring binder from MGH about symptoms of rejection and it is not easy to find online from reputable sources like MGH or Mayo, or Cleveland Clinic. I went by a source from Stanford Health Care, and another from Dove Med which I had never heard of before.
As I said, I doubt it has anything to do with my transplant so I think I should see a gastroenterologist. The first time I assumed it was food poisoning, the second time was milder and my daughter thought it may have been because my gut flora had not recovered (it was less than a week after the first time), but this time I think this needs to be looked into.

@contentandwell

The picture of your view is just wonderful! I am so sorry to hear of you GI problems. Keep looking for answers and don't give up.

Teresa

@hopeful33250 we love that hotel, it’s our third time staying there. We always have a little deck off the room and on a nice day i’s pleasant to sit out there with coffee in the morning or other beverages before we head to dinner.
JK

@contentandwell It really is lovely, I can understand why you chose that hotel! Feeling any better from the GI issues?

Teresa

@contentandwell, We spent a week in Bar Harbor the summer before my transplant. The picture is beautiful! We had a room with a balcony overlooking the harbor and I used to enjoy watching the tide changing and the lobster boats.
Rosemary

@hopeful33250 Thanks Teresa. I am fine now, it always lasts basically one day with a second day of slight queasiness and fatigue from the sleeplessness and of course the exertion of the gastric issues. I need to do a little more research tonight and choose a gastro to go to. It's amazing how many things can cause this. I even found one article, from an English site, where it was caused by untreated hypothyroidism, something that can happen but is not common! I am on levothyroxine but my dosage was cut in half a while back, perhaps it needs to be increased again. I have asked my PCP to put in for a TSH test for me, which he has. If it shows low I will go back to the higher dose and see where that will bring me. I don't want it to go on though, particularly with summer quickly approaching, which means spending time at our rustic cabin in Maine with my kids. That would be a problem if I got sick up there.
