I was diagnosed with LC a little over 2 yrs ago and I cannot take the budesonide. I did the first 8 week course and it was brutal. I forces my way through it despite the massive migraines they caused. It was like having the worse migraine I've ever had, every day for 8 weeks, and....it didn't even work. As soon as I was off the meds, the LC came right back. I don't like the side effects of the other alternatives. Im working with several dietitians and the flare ups are better, but the inflammation in my joints is getting worse. At 46, I walk like I'm much further along in my years, having to stop every 20 steps or so to let my hip joints rest or stretch just to make it another 20 steps. Tendinitis in my hands, pain in my shoulders at the joints. At this point I could deal with 20 trips to the bathroom if it just didnt hurt so much to get there. My restroom visits have reduced to very manageable between 3 to 5 a day, but this joint pain feels debilitating.

@devenyk - How awful! Is this all due to an auto-immune situation? All the joint pain sounds like a rheumatoid arthritis onset. Since LC can be auto-immune, and other autoimmune diseases are also often present when there is one, I'm just wondering. Along with my LC, I got Hashimoto's thyroiditis and PPD, a skin disease - all auto-immune. The LC only causes bathroom trips for me - sometimes 15 a day! I don't seem to have any side effects from the budesonide, thank heavens, and at 80, I don't need any added joint pain! I am very active and would likely overdose on something if forced to slow down. I've been on budesonide now since January. Down to one pill a day for the next month, then finally OFF! I've gained about 8 lbs along with this.
Good Luck with diet control. I don't think I'd ever be disciplined enough to do that.
