Tymlos injection sites

Posted by karenw9 @karenw9, Sep 18, 2023

I was told to only inject tymlos on my stomach. But I'm very small and have limited room on my stomach. I'm able to get 4 sites only for injections. It feels as if I'm always injecting in the same place. Anyone else have this problem, and if so what have you done about it? Thanks!

@karenw9 @lhankins @mint @normahorn@windyshores I don't understand - the TYMLOS LITERATURE tells you, you can inject in six places: thighs, belly, and underarms. Read the accompanying literature with the pen! I've used them all. They work just fine. Use the published literature and refer it to your pharmacy or doctor. https://www.tymlos.com/taking-tymlos/ I would not rely on a pharmacist because they are thinking of it as blood thinning med - maybe the OTHER injectables limit you; maybe your doctor is not a specialist and also uninformed? I went to the micro fine needles. Indeed NOT recommended - why? because if you aren't careful, you can crimp the needle putting it on the pen cap. A pharmacy can't override the doctor's orders. So if they give you resistance, contact your doctor. I use the 32mm x 5 micro fine. I am careful when I twist it on the pen. We've had this conversation last summer, about some of us getting fat tummies (so it was deciding not to inject in bellies) and just doing it in thighs. Which is fine. I wanted to go for rotation so I went to upper arms too.

@loriesco I don’t see anything in the Tymlos instructions saying it is ok to inject anywhere but the belly? I am having the same issue, little belly fat, having to avoid scar tissue, etc. Gives me very little area.

@calofmichigan I have a pain pump implanted in the left side of my abdomen, so when I inject Tymlos on that side, to get two inches from it, I inject it more to the side though I still have some fat there. My thighs are more taut but I can still pinch maybe 3/4". Do you think that is enough for the injection?

@jcoleary
Yes! If you can grab a bunch of fat and keep holding it while you inject, that should be fine. Those needles are so tiny, I doubt you are going into any muscle. Thanks for asking.

@ccps101 that is correct. but my doctors said I could. But since I didn't get a great result I am only doing it in my belly. rotate so you don't get any scar tissue problems

@loriesco What helped me was to sit on the edge of the bed and then hunch over a bit so that any belly fat gets bunched up.

I wouldn't worry about using the same site. I rotated left and right for two years. That's 365 on each side. I'm sure I didn't hit 365 unique spots!

@karenw9 or others who have injected Tymlos in thigh... was it successful? I've been told abdomen only, but have very little fat and it's painful and hard to find enough spots. However, I have lots of fat on my thighs and wish my doctor would ok this. Some docs seem to be fine with this although Tymlos did not study thigh efficacy. Thoughts/experiences?

@lp30
My numbers have been good even though I rotate through abdomen and thighs. I have enough fat on my thighs that it’s still considered a subcutaneous injection.

However, if you have skinny legs (I’m so envious) then yes, avoid the thighs if you’re injecting into muscle. It certainly would be more painful !

@calofmichigan My abdomen got fatter from belly shots. I asked my MD and he said okay to inject in thighs. Now a clinical educator called me today and said better absorbed if injected in the abdomen....I'd prefer to inject in the fat of my thighs. The educator wouldn't comment on why Forteo a similar drug is allowed in the thighs. Does anyone have any documented information that absorption of Tymlos is optimum in the abdomen. I'm thinking maybe it was only studied in the abdomen but the educator wouldn't commit to that. TY
