What does progression really mean?

Posted by amyboylan1 @amyboylan1, 1 day ago

I am wondering if a slight increase of m spike like .04 is considered progression?
Is any increase in m spike considered progression? My doctor really didn’t want to discuss yet i also bave a ratio of 2.4 which had fluctuated a little and Kappa light chains which go up and down

Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the Blood Cancers & Disorders Support Group.

I wonder why your dr was not concerned. Have you posted your diagnosis? How long ago you were diagnosed? Some of us came in with known diagnosis like MDS. I was low grade to mid at diagnosis. That may be why the DR is not so concerned.
More on this site will post, so a bit more info may help. Also call your nurse may be someone to have check again.

@amyboylan1 my M spike has been fairly stable but my k/l ratio and light chains go up and down. I had major surgery last year and everything spiked a bit but my last appointment they had gone back down to the range in which they generally reside.
I would be concerned about my doctor, not answering all my questions. That’s not right. From listening to people talk about it on Connect, my impression is that physicians try not to give you a definitive number like “if your M spike gets above this, I will be concerned.” Mine sort of cools my jets when I ask for this by saying that he looks at my health holistically and pays attention to all the indicators that give him a fuller picture.
I think it’s important that you have a conversation with him or her and ask what lab results would cause concern.

I have just started my health journey with anemia and inflammation. i have started iron infusions last week to help with the anemia. I had elevated m-spike but my drs. haven't talked to me about it. I am taking 10 mg of prednisone daily. How long did you take that until your stomach started with pain?
