Well...you did invite "any suggestions", and your story concerns me.
Diabetes is a condition defined by genetic predisposition. My grandmother on my mother's side had type 2. My father had it too.
For reasons I won't mention here, I am prone to bouts of depression. And when I'm depressed, I eat badly. VERY badly. The combination of this and my genetic "prediposition trap" brought my A1C up to 11.0, once I decided to find a family doctor and get myself checked out.
3 months of home-milled organic grains, organic fruits and veg from my gardens, and things like cinnamon and nuts and stuff...my A1C was down to 7.0. My doctor was pleased. I was not.
From the start, I scoured the internet for solutions. The most intriguing by far, were the newest cannabinoids being discovered and tested...a bit. Who know where human health would be now, without Reefer Madness (prohibition, to be clear) but CBG and THCv and probably several of the over 100 cannabinoids lying, waiting to be discovered in this wonderous plant, show great promise for conditions like type2 diabetes.
My family doctor and I decided to undertake what he called an "off the books study". Basically, I did.
He observed the results.
CBG works FAST. In 2 days, my fasting readings went from that 7.0 average to 5.6 (or so. I'd have to check my data). My 2 subsequent A1Cs were 5.6 and 5.8. In my doctor's words: "That was easy."
CBG is meant for a "triage", short term "emergency room" treatment. Stabilize the patient. Then on to the "specialist". In this case: THCv .
I've been on too low a dose of THCv for a couple months. It is expensive. $100/month and I'm at 1/4-1/10th of the dose I'm hoping to achieve. The jury's out. I won't know more until my dose can be raised and my body responds.
And I'm no longer taking daily readings, or any readings. Almost a year of that was enough for me. I'll knw more in a bit less than 3 months.
So. After about a month on THCv, my A1c was 6.2. I'm trying to do the same things as I used to, otherwise. And exercise is an impossibility (paraplegic)...so it's this or...
I'm sure I'll be posting more on this subject.
Canada's cannabis "glasnost" certainly opens a world of possibilities for us Canucks. Heck. Sante Cannabis (federal gov't cannabis/health office) is just up the hill. Hills....
grr...
I post the 1st 5 pages of the study. The rest are uploaded on the main page.

Remarkable study - your own and the reference. If it's really that effective for everyone, then wow.
Are you really getting A1C readings that often? I guess I'm repeating myself but as I mentioned/asked of OP, how about blood glucose readings that we can do at home? Or did you get the home A1C kit - I know I've seen such things, but they were a little pricier last time I looked.
With diabetes it's not just what you eat but how much, too. You can even eat the bad (sweet!) stuff - in small amounts, if you budget for it. And you can try some carby stuff and judge if that affects you or not because the blood glucose test is your current state, not like the A1C which is an average.
Wait, did you say your A1C changed dramatically - in two days?????? That's basically not supposed to be possible. Hmmm.
