@tomrennie My mom's dose for capec is 2500 mg currently and as per vitals, doctors said, she is doing okay. I guess, they'll reduce in the upcoming cycles, in case it gets too much.

Also, thanks for the warning me about the dry skin. I am trying my best rub creams every night on her arms and foot. (Cetaphil)
Should I be applying those more frequently throughout the day?

And would CIPN symptoms go away after treatment?

@rb991
I’ve been advised to use a cream that has 25% urea for the peely dry skin on the hands and feet. I now apply that several times a day to my hands and at least once a day to my feet. It seems to help.

@djchambers Thank you. I use Cerave moisturizing cream. I honestly don't know what's in it. Now I will go look. Thanks again.

@tomrennie
I buy “Udderly Smooth”. The specialty pharmacy gave it to me with oral chemo pills.
Then I had lots of peeling and my drs ofc said I needed same cream but with 25% urea. I now order on Amazon. The kind specificalty pharmacy was not the right kind.

@tomrennie Hi 🙂
The last cycle was a tough one (3000 mg) and she lost another 3 kgs.
However, the off week rejuvenated her but not too much to go through another cycle. So, we've decided to take another week off before we start another cycle.
Emotionally, the last cycle was really heavy for her but she's having a ball since the off week started.

How are things at your end? How's your health and what about your appetite?

Question—capecitabine IV easier than pills ?

@rb991 It sounds difficult for her, but her off weeks recuperating seem needed. I am glad that she is taking advantage of them. Good for her. She is almost done. Keep the faith that it is working. I am doing well thanks. I have not had any major changes in about three years and have been enjoying food again during that time. Please keep us posted on her progress ok?

@nycmusic To my knowledge, capecitabine only comes in pill form. 5-fluorouracil is a very similar IV chemotherapy, but its side effects profile is different.

I’m starting capecitabine on May 4th. What are some of things that were helpful with side effects?
I’ll be having radiation 5 days a week also. I have prochlorperaz for nausea.
Thank you 🙏🏼

@115 Welcome to Mayo Connect. @tomrennie has some experience with this medication. I'll invite him to post with you.

How long ago were you diagnosed? Is capecitabine the only treatment that has been prescribed so far? Have you had any other treatments or surgeries?
