Do you still get tightness in knee after tkr, after working all day?

Posted by cyndi2013 @cyndi2013, Mar 31 7:59pm

I am 16 months post op TKR. By the end of the day, my knee is really tight and stiff. I exercise every morning on elipitcal and recumbent, and walk steady at work. Does anyone experience this stiffness?

I am 7.5 weeks out from surgery.
My knee is very stiff and cannot walk for any length of time. I exercise and go to PT 2 times a week. Nothing it helping. The surgeon has mentioned MUA. I am so frustrated.

I never had MUA and never will.
I have full ROM and do fairly well. Throughout the day I do well, but at the end of the day is when the tightness sets in. This is frustrating

Hi Cyndi,

I'm 71 now and had both knees replaced in 2022. I haven't had the tightness you describe.

One suggestion - See your Dr and see if they'll refer you to a PT for some sessions to show you how to exercise and stretch the knee to relieve the tightness.

I'm in the gym everyday and I spin 5x/weeek and do resistance training with a trainer 2x/week. I think the spinning helps my knees stay loose, or at least helps with circulation - but that's just a guess.

There are other reasons I'm sure why you might be experiencing stiffness and I'd have a good ortho Dr check it out.

All the best to you.

Joe

Hi Cyndi,

One other thing to consider to keep your knees moving while you're relaxing at night. Here is just one example: (I'm not recommending this product, just showing you what is available and what might help.)

@heyjoe415 , Thanks. I use stationary bike every evening. Every little thing does help. This us a slow process.

Hi, I am thinking about buying an Elliptical machine. I had double knee replacement in July of last year and I have a floor peddler with no tension. I have included a picture of the type I am talking about. I am not a walker by nature, but I use the floor peddler every day. My question is, because there is tension involved in this machine, will this help keep my quads strong so that I can maintain my balance? I would like an opinion before I make the investment. Any feedback is welcome.

I have had my elipitcal- recumbent combination years ago and I use it every day. It works well for me.
The biggest issue I have is the stiffness at end of the day. I am going to increase my stationary bike pedals in the evening.

@cyndi2013 Thanks! Any recommendations on which one? When did you have a knee replacement or did you? Since I am older, I need to find a way to keep moving and stay active. I am thinking this would help. I use the one I have 30 minutes every day.

@lawanna85 I had partial on left knee in 2021, that went really well. I had a full TKR in 2024, now that was down and out brutal.

No two are alike I am finding out. I had both done at the same time last July and they both have their challenges. But they went well and I am glad I had them done.
