What is safest drug to use after Evenity treatment?
Have taken 2 Evenity treatments. It's going okay so far. My doctor is suggesting Prolia to maintain. I've seen a lot of negative about Prolia. Is there a safer alternative?

Hi Laura,
I took Boniva for 5 years in my 50's. I was diagnosed with a lung disease and on Prednisone for 2.5 years (60mg tapered to 0) and that saved my life but took it's toll on my bones. Thus, for me, the Evenity and Reclast. I will have had one year of Evenity and one Relclast infusion before I can even have a Dexa Scan to see the positive 🙂 changes. Two doctors independent of each other made the same recommendations for me. My primary had suggested Prolia and while we were waiting for my health to improve the others said no. They are both Endrocrinologists so I feel it's the best decision. Sometimes I don't know what causes what with my myriad of things I'd working through. I have achy thighs, an L4, L5 issue, and am now on IVIG every 3 weeks to boost my immune system, decrease brain fog, and decrease fatigue. Prednisone and Evenity are done! I have done my homework and clearly nothing is perfect.. I don't want a broken hip or bone. I was very active prior to my lung disease in August 2023, which by a miracle is "in remission." I know how hard decisions can be. I had been through so much that I thought about just living my life and ignoring these things as it got to be so much. I'm glad I didn't. I know that fear plays the largest role in these decisions for us. Best to you Laura, Cynthia

5 Reactions@swsunflower: Hi! I’m just checking on how you are doing on Evenity Osteoporosis therapy?
I’m looking at my 10th injections the first of March and interested in what drug you are planning to take to preserve increased bone density? Awaiting your thoughts…
@clj9821 Thank you Cynthia for your reply, yes making decisions about all these drugs does get very stressful & confusing. Especially when you have more than 1 health problem & have to look into multiple drugs for each health problem. I have struggled with seizures for 20 years after a TBI caused after numerous blows to the head by my x. They started with 2 a year until I was started on medication which took them to around 24 as year. I stopped the meds after 18 mnths because of s/e. I then tried various drugs for 8yrs which did not help so I stopped those drugs in 2012 & struggle with the seizures. The Osteoporosis is a real problem due to falls. I am still not sure about the Evenity & the more I read about the s/e from all these drugs the more I do not want to take any. I took Fosamax for 1 year about 30yrs ago. Hope you are going well on your treatment I just came across your email.

I finished a year of the monthy Evenity shots and then my rheumatologist wanted me to do the yearly Reclast infusions. I know many do the Prolia shots instead. My Dr wanted to save that for down the road for some reason…🤷♀️

Hi Laura, I am so sorry for the abuse you have suffered at the hands of another. I start to feel as you do sometimes. I think about stopping all meds and making life easier.. I had skin reactions to the Evenity every time that resolved over a week and was tired the day of .. The Reclast infusion the month after the last Evenity went better if that can be the case. I don't have any lingering side effects, and my next one will be Feb 2027 and 2028. Take care as you can.. falls are a big deal even though I've falled twice..while hiking..before getting lung disease that has resolved.. so I can't speak to that. I want to ignore it until it happens.. or never does, I hope! Let me know if I can be of help. Cynthia

2 Reactions@janeted my Reclast journey has been very painful. 4 months of being in muscle pain, joint pain, weakness. Worse than pain from back surgery. I would make sure the infusion is given at a slow rate. I hear it does determine pain outcome. Mine was given fast.😢. Best wishes.
I finished 12 months of Envenity and had my first prolia shot a few months ago. All is good, bone density improved 4 6% which the Dr said is pretty good. One more prolia to go in a couple months.
