Evenity and belly fat?
Has anyone noticed an increase in belly fat with Evenity? It is not a listed side effect. I stay up about 3-4 pounds over my normal weight and it seems to have settled in my belly. My diet has not changed, except now I am trying to cut back on some things, but it does not seem to be helping. I am coming up on round 6 in three weeks. Otherwise, I have had no issues. Thanks in advance!

Our experiences are different, but something seems to be causing these symptoms. After 4-5 months of Evenity I noticed my slacks would not fit. Checking the scale, I had gained almost 10 pounds (belly fat). I proceeded to cut out dessert and watched calories for the next month. I did not lose even one pound. I have been getting the Evenity injections in my abdomen, but for the rest of them (3) I will get them in my arms. I self-injected Tymlos for two years in my thighs and did not gain weight. I read up on belly fat and the literature says it is difficult to get rid of. I don't want a new wardrobe, so I hope I can do it.

3 Reactionsftc, it's quite helpful to note side effects, especially those not signaled in the clinical trials. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-026-69227-0 You probably already know that Evenity blocks sclerostin a protein that stimulates body fat. I hope the fat disappears when you stop the medication.

1 Reaction@kathleenintexas I also noticed the weight gain, noticeably around belly. I have gained 3-4 lbs after 3 injections. Pretty depressing.

1 ReactionJust wanted to add this about belly fat in post menopausal women. I am certainly not saying that evenity is not a culprit.
https://www.health.harvard.edu/womens-health/why-am-i-gaining-belly-fat-during-menopause
@gravity3 In my case, my weight was stable for years before I started Evenity. My weight did increase a bit after menopause 10 years ago but I had worked hard to get it back down to a level I was happy with and keep it there for years. That all changed when I started Evenity 10 months ago. I've gained 8 lbs despite not changing my diet (and even while increasing exercise and avoiding alcohol, sugar, etc.).
The interesting part of this is that sclerostin inhibits fat burning. Evenity inhibits sclerostin so one would think it would prevent weight gain.
Some sources attribute the weight gain to water retention in arms and legs but I don't think this is the case for me as my arms and legs are not puffy but my belly is bigger.
I have two more shots and am hoping this trend reverses itself after I stop.

@oopsiedaisy I am interested in hearing how you are doing after you complete the series of injections. I had my first treatment a week ago and felt no side effects until about 48 hours after the injection when my stomach swelled to the point my clothes don't fit. Like you, m
y weight hasn't varied more than a pound or two for many years so it's been a shock. I had the injections in my belly so I wondered if it is some type of inflammation, but from other posters it doesn't seem to matter if the shot is in the arm or leg. I am also concerned that it is interacting negatively with thyroid medications? It's unfortunate that we can't monitor progress to know if it is working or not until we finish treatment.
bartholomew, the swelling sounds severe. It would be best to contact your physician as that type of swelling can indicate an allergic reaction, unless you usually wear your clothing very, very tight.
After 11 injections, I have gained 13 pounds. It has settled in my stomach, around my ribs and in breast tissue. I had to see my ob/gyn due to breast pain. He said it was from the weight gain. With a history of breast cancer it is scary. Mammogram was fine. I have nothing that fits. Some of my heart issues have also gotten worse. My bone density did go up 14.6% in my spine and 5.5% in my hips.
