Optic Sheath Meningioma, 6 Wks radiation, ongoing chonic pain.
Diagnosed with left optic sheath meningioma in 2014. Received 6 weeks radiation therapy. I am now blind in my left eye, which was expected. However, I have been in pain since the radiation. The pain varies in intensity, at it's worst it's like fire all over my torso. It's hard to breath or talk. Anyone have similar problems after radiation? Thank you.

I am sorry to hear about your painful experience. I have a skull based meningioma near my left optic canal without symptoms. If it grows, my neurosurgeon suggested very small doses of radiation daily over a 16-30 day period to avoid damaging the optic nerve. I was hoping for endonasal removal or gamma knife surgery, but they pose too much risk to the optic nerve. What type of radiation did you have? I hope you feel better soon.
I'm sorry for what you are going through, as well. My tumor still resides on my optic nerve as it was too risky to remove. I have an excellent neurosurgeon that watches it with a yearly MRI. We opted to use stereotactic fractionated radiation, 6 wks duration, 5 beams. This did stop the tumor from growing. I wouldn't recommend radiation to the brain unless absolutely necessary. Sounds like in your case, as was in mine, it may be the best option. I wish you well and thank you for your kind words.
