Is the powder or the spray better for skin irritation?
When you use the powder for irritation doesn’t the barrier wipe take it off?

My method works for me. Sometimes for 4 tot 5 days but the recommendation is a change every three days.
@jaxfl we were told to change the appliance it every 5 days and we do it faithfully
May ask what type of bag you use. Since we are so new at this we are trying to find out what appliances work best

Honestly, five days is a suggestion for a starting point. When I had my first ostomy, I was told to change it twice a week. The WOCNs I have worked with suggest changing it the day before you start having problems (which you find out by getting things like irritation). The only real rule is to not change so often your skin breaks down... Which is more like daily or several times a day.
I change every 4 days. Others get 7 days, it all depends.
I've used Coloplast extended wear and Eakins Seal for the last couple of decades.
What are you currently using? Have you been in touch with a WOCN since you started having irritation?
Hollister wax rings, Hollisters appliances, Hollister bags. I am changing from custom cut to precut. I still have many supplies. I bought some cheap on eBay as backup material. I have supply disruption anxiety.
@jaxfl Coloplast and Convatec are the other main suppliers. They are generally happy to send out a samples, and they have knowledgeable staff to talk to.
A great resource is the Mayo Ostomy Support Group. We meet monthly, and one of the Mayo Ostomy nurses hosts it.
It's a great way to get questions answered! Do you think you could make it?

Thank you. Right now I’m using the SenSura Milo, one piece EaseClose WIDE outlet (what does the wide outlet mean?)
I’m going to look at other samples
@susanf8
I haven’t been in touch with a WOCN as i wasn’t aware they were available to me but I found one not to far away I’m going to use.
Thanks to everyone who brought this to my attention.

1 ReactionDoes anyone find that sometime it’s great. It’s like you don’t even know it’s there and then all of a sudden it starts to hurt?
@pidge32 I would guess that wide outlet means the width of the space in the pouch into which you can 'poop' is greater on this format than on some other one. As long as it suits you....
@susanf8 I’m going to try
