Side effects from Zoledronic Acid?

Posted by jo2184 @jo2184, May 28, 2024

Have you or someone you know had negative side effects from a Zoledronic Acid (Reclast) injection? After 3 1/2 years of taking alendronate sodium tablets, my recent Dexa scan shows a decrease in my hip bone density. So my endrocronologist recommends that I start taking Zoledronic Acid injection. However, I'm hesitant since it has a long list of possible negative side effects. I would appreciate knowing of people's experience with this medicine.

Unfortunately I am one of the 1%ers who got severe musculosketetal pain from the one infusion I had. The first attack was almost immediate and lasted 1 week and there were several to follow. The attacks continued past the 6 month time frame they say it could last. It’s probably the most entirely painful experience I’ve ever had and there was no indication when an attack was going to happen. I had the last one at 18 months post infusion. It completely took me out and the only help was pain killers from the ER.

Hi,
My Oncologist gave me an infusion of Zoledronic acid a few weeks ago, as he thought my bones needed it.
The day after the infusion, I felt very tired and was nauseated as well. It lasted a good week and I still feel nauseated some days. I eat ginger which is helping a little. Also, I have had some flue symtoms as well.
I had the prostate removed some 8 years ago and have been on Lupron ever since. A year ago, it was signs of a recurrence and I was put on Chemo therapy (Docetaxel) for 8 months. I still have some of the unwanted side effects from the chemo. To say the least, the Zoledronic acid did nothing to improve my well being. Maybe it helps my bones? Time will tell.

Check with your oncologist about Creatine, supplement that you can take from home. 100% Pure Monohydrate , that's the best. Helps fight fatigue from muscles and chemo, but definitely check with your oncologist doctor.
They give body builders creatine to create and strengthen, muscle, bone mass. It helped with my fatigue from chemo.
