What causes sore nipples on a male in prostate cancer treatment?

Posted by graybeard46 @graybeard46, Mar 18 7:35am

I finished my prostate surgery, radiation and 2 shots of Lupron 15 months ago last few weeks my nipples are tender and hurt when touched. Anyone have this experience and what could cause it . Also what id the purpose of seeing your radiologist every 6 months as long as my PSA is close to zero?

@seasuite I don't know if this exactly addresses your concern since I'm on a year+ vacation from Lupron rather than Orgovyx, but after maybe(?) 5 or 6 months off the Lupron, my left nipple became painful when bumped against anything or even rubbed against clothing. Recently, I noticed that problem has disappeared, but has surfaced less commonly regarding the right nipple. I *was* wondering about breast cancer, but at the moment I'm thinking it's not something to worry about. I will certainly ask my oncologist his thoughts when I'm back there, though.

@joecontheroad It's just one of the things that we have to rule out along the way surviving PCa and the litany of treatments side effects. I've had a rotten time with Orgovyx, compared with most others on this site. After only four months of taking it, that completed over two years ago, I still have a number of side effects, including hot flashes. I've seen many Drs. and my next on tap to see is an Endocrinologist as the Urologists have given up on me. Given the amount of breast cancer in my family, I needed a mammogram.

After 6 years on Orgovyx and PET scans etc, my doctor decided to give me a “vacation” from Orgovyx. It’s been about 4 months clean but now I’m experiencing painful nipples. Anyone else have this side effect.

Yes, I’ve had trouble with the left nipple being sore after being off the Lupron for about a year now. Oncologist looked at it and doesn’t think it’s anything except the fluctuation in the hormones which is what I thought originally but offered to get mammogram if it continued to get worse, but it has actually gotten better. Breast Cancer in men is like one percent of the cases, but it does happen.

I no longer see my radiation oncologist, but I do see my medical oncologist every 6 months to coordinate my scheduled PSA and other bloodwork and to consult with her about the results.
