Am I delusional? Have schiozo-affective and want to give back
I've struggled with schiozo-affective for many years now. I think I'm having trouble with my CPAP, and it's making me very tired. I always take my meds, I refill them on my own, work a part-time job, self-care, but sometimes I get 'crazy' ideas.
My crazy ideas are: become a mental health support counselor. Or start an art club. Maybe write some kind of book or document (nothing long or fancy) that will help people with what I have to know they are not alone, and help parents of children (even adult offspring) to kind of get their bearings.
1. We will always be sick. Your loved one will always struggle with this. They won't just get better. They may be able to live a pretty decent life, but _only_ if they consistently take their meds and receive treatment.
2. Caveat. Long term recreational marijuana use can eventually develop into something similar to schizoid disorders, including delusions, hallucinations, and impaired thinking. There was a lady in one of the units like this at hospital where I was.
3. You might still have bad days. Every once in a while I get what I call 'Saturday Blues.' Every once in a while, typically on a Saturday (maybe rapid cycling?), I just feel really down. Nothing seems to go right that day. But the next day, everything is fine.
So, I guess my crazy ideas are just me wanting to give back, and contribute to bettering my own and other people's mental health. Is that crazy?

Maybe a better title would be, 'Is it reasonable?' or 'I am being rational?' Didn't realize I couldn't edit (title) once I posted.

1 Reaction@clippedwings58 - welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. You can fill out the form at the Help Center https://connect.mayoclinic.org/help-center/ and request an edit at any time, and a moderator will get that done for you.
I think your idea of taking something that has been challenging in your own life and turning it around to help others is awesome. And who better to deliver that message than someone like yourself who is personally affected by schizoaffective disorder?
Are you thinking of pursuing one of these ideas now? If so, which one?

3 ReactionsI would say that since you are working part time and doing well, having some sort of project or focused hobby is a great idea. However, I would recommend only doing one or two of them at a time. These are not delusions, nor are they irrational (though doing all of the above may be a bit much) since they are fairly realistic things that can be engaged in. Advocacy is a great path because you could meet other people. Writing books is great (I have actually finished one and am working with an editor now on it to get it ready for publishing.), but it is kind of isolating, so you could join a writing/ book club too.
