Upper Torso itching after Reclast infusion

Posted by roxanne1950 @roxanne1950, Jan 10 1:43pm

Had my first Reclast infusion on Sept. 8, 2025. 30 minute infusion. Hydrated 64 oz of water 2 days before, day of and two days after. Tylenol day before , day of and day after. No flu-like after effects or body aches and thought all was well. started upper body itching -- just the front of my body -chest, breasts, stomach, arms and underarms. No noticeable rash at first, but after a few weeks a rash with red dots Didn't connect it to REclast at first. Primary Dr sent me to a rheumatologist and also saw my dermatologist. Dermatologist took a sample/biopsy of one of the red dots and the result was GRovers disease which apparently is a benign itching condition? Had multiple blood tests to see if something else is going on in my body. Waiting for some results and will se e the rheumatologist end of January to discuss all test results.
Sorry for the long post - just wondering if anyone else has had a reaction like this after a Reclast infusion. The only thing "new" to my system is the Reclast infusion.

I'm glad your doctors are making an effort to discover the source of the problem!
Per Google, Itching can occur with Reclast (zoledronic acid) as a common infusion site reaction or a sign of a serious allergic reaction, potentially alongside rash, hives, swelling, or difficulty breathing; while mild itching at the site might be manageable, any sign of a severe allergic reaction (like hives, swelling of face/throat, trouble breathing) warrants immediate medical attention, as it's a critical side effect of this bisphosphonate drug used for osteoporosis.

Thanks for your input. No serious allergic reaction for me -- just skin itching mostly at night. Seems to be getting better with using over the counter creams. Since no one is saying definitely from the Reclast, just wanted to hear from others to see if this was a common side effect. Thanks for commenting.

I too developed a red rash weeks after treatment. Started with 1 then another one. The Reclast i got my body did not like at all! I do not think it is right medication for me because i am still getting pain. I started Immunotherapy last month due to a very rare disease i have called Melorheostosis, which is lesions of my bone. I got extremely sick after receiving this medication. Took a good month to feel better but now im dealing with these rashes that wont go away now. Im assuming allergic reaction? My body dont do well with medicines to begin with lol
I am documenting my rashes so i can show my metabolic dr next time i go in, this way they switch me to something else, hopefully.
