I experienced a sudden onset severe headache yesterday, felt like my head would explode. Had nausea/vomiting. It slowly subsided, had to lay down in darkness. Had mild headache rest of day. Have history of headaches, migraines for many yrs, never this severe. I am 68. Just read its called thunderclap headache. What to do next?

I had headaches for 2 years every day not migraines. I started having Botox every three months and now I get one headache a day instead of 3 or more. Towards the end of the three months I start to get a few more but not bad. If you have not tried Botox I recommend you try it. I had no side effects from the Botox I suggest you give it a try. What do you have to lose ? Bernie Boy
I am so sorry I am a migraine suffer as well. I am in a suburb of Dallas, TX and we are having a strange weather day. The high was 87 and a weird weather front is moving in. The wind is so strong it has knocked out numerous power lines. I am 78 and made a big pot of sausage and Tortellini with the intention of taking it to my daughter’s home and the granddaughters were coming as well. But my migraine is so bad I don’t think I can drive in this wind. So disappointing.
I am so sorry for your migraine experience. When I was younger I thought there would be a cure… there have been many new medications but they don’t really work. 😔

With that type of severe headache suddenly appearing I advice you to contact your doctor. You might need imaging since there was a change in intensity.

purple26 - have you had the chance to speak to your doctor's office by phone or by portal message to report this sudden onset severe headache yesterday? If so, what was the response?

IT is always possible, but since you're up and at 'em, and here writing, it doesn't seem likely, that you had a stroke or aneurism. I have no significant history or exeprience/reading about headaches and migraines, so your own explanation seems quite likely. However, you may wish to run this past a physician who might advise imaging...and with good reason as explanations will follow.
