Higher Microplastic Concentrations Discovered in Prostate Tumors

Although this finding needs larger study confirmation and it was not determined to be causative, it certainly makes the higher concentration of microplastics in prostate tumors a suspect for deeper investigation.

A recent report said that ALL of our ‘organic’ produce sold on the farmstands of Eastern Long Island contains PFOA’s…
The head of the Farm Bureau said that this does not reflect poor practices, but rather the ‘prevalence’ of these compounds in our environment.
Microplastics are right up there with these forever chemicals and because of that I am truly glad that I am OLD!!
If such a scan existed my body would glow head to toe from eating all these local veggies and drinking 3 cups of Keurig Starbuck’s Dark Roast every day; boiling water injected thru a thin plastic membrane simply cannot be good

Interesting info. Thanks.
But the link/summary leaves lots of things unanswered:
Were other organs/tissues studied as a control (could be this is typical throughout the body)?
Correlation isn't causation. I didn't see any comments sorting this out.
Were the particles chemically reactive? These micro-(really nano) plastics are usually very stable - one reason they last soooo long in the environment.
Yup - they are everywhere. Like it (NO!) or not.
But I won't hit the panic button yet. We've been exposed too long and no 'smoking gun' of serious problems. It would be really good to find a way to stop them entering the environment NOW.
(Why can't they accumulate in my joints to replace the worn out cartilage? Drat! no 'silver lining' there.)

@grandpun

Fully understand!

I have always been, for the last 50 years, an earlier adopter of new technology and I always like to read the latest cutting edge research about subjects of interest to me, where there are usually more questions than answers.

If you want to probe into the detail of this study you can review the February 26, 2026 presentation made at the recent ASCO Genitourinary
Cancers Symposium, but there is a cost to download the full presentation.

You are correct that there are an enormous number of questions, but please understand this is the first study EVER to examine microplastic levels in prostate tumors and to compare them with plastic buildup in noncancerous prostate tissue.

Everything must have its initial start somewhere….

@grandpun Good point - we should only be so lucky as to last as long as plastic!
