~ Difficult transition with move, loss of dog, kitty ill ~
Well, as several of you know I moved to VA from MD about 18 months ago. I didn't want to make the move and it took me 5 years to decide to do it. Two of my three kids harassed me to move down near them, "since I'm getting older." I had my own condo in MD, am quite healthy and active, and had just gotten a divorce after a 40 year marriage ..... I felt oh so relieved when I moved into my condo ..... "it was mine" and I felt, safe and comfy - I savored it. After years of my kids wanting me to move down here (to VA), I finally made the move, but it has been a very difficult transition ..... when I got here, I had to have my teeth extracted as I need dentures (still don't have the teeth yet), I had to have my sweet dog, Molly, put down (Cavalier, King Charles Spaniel) due to congestive heart failure, my tenant in my condo is moving and it is now up for sale 🙁 , and just last week I took my kitty to the Vet. and he is doing a whole panel of blood work .... diabetes, heart, kidneys, thyroid, etc. She's 11. I have been on a waiting list for a first floor apartment down closer to my girls for about 6 months now ... it's a low income apartment. I have to go up Tuesday to check my condo with the Realtor to see if everything is OK in order to give my tenant her security deposit back ...... I don't look forward to that at all. I did find a church, but it's 1-1/2 hrs. away. It will be closer once I move to the apartments, that is IF I ever move there. If it had not cost me so much to move down here, at this point I would move back, but I'm still paying all that off through a freedom debt company.
Thanks for listening, abby (the whiner)

@amberpep Abby, I'm so pleased for you!! (I'm doing my happy dance). I really do envy the view you will have, I just love looking at mountains! Teresa
Thank you Teresa ..... I am so excited I could pop! I'll have a patio for my plants in warm weather and the windowsills are wide so I'll have lots of room to set my African Violets. I had 20 when I moved here .... regular and unusual colors, and within a few months all but 3 died. Well, I clipped off some of the center, healthiest leaves, rooted them, and now I'm back up to 15. A.V. are a sweet memory from my Grandmother who loved them - every windowsill was full - and she gave me my first one when I was 15. When the season comes I'm heading to a special nursery and getting more of the unusual ones.
This is the first time since I've been here I feel more positive about life down here ...... I love the mountains and of course here we're surrounded, and all my windows face directly toward them. I can just "feel" sitting in my chair on a cold snowy day, drinking my tea, watching a snow storm slowly coming over the mountains. And the beautiful walks and hikes ..... well, I could go on forever. Thank you Teresa for sticking with me. Now back to packing.

@amberpep Abby, I wish you many blessings my friend! Teresa
Thanks so much Teresa.

My daughter and I went over to the apartment today and I could not be more pleased. It's actually bigger than my condo. was in Frederick. I was thinking about where to put the furniture. The whole side faces East - love that because I get the morning sun and the windows are huge .... I feel like a little kid who just got her first bike.
Thank you, friend,
abby
@amberpep Yeah!! Enjoy the feeling - you deserve it. 🙂 Teresa
Hi @amberpep,
On another thread you wrote:
"Hi friends …. off subject here for a second ….. I signed all the papers today for my new apartment …. huge windows, faces the Shenandoah Mountains and Blue Ridge Parkway. I can’t wait to get in there. So, now I’ll pack and take boxes over to my new place in the back of my 4-Runner, so that when the men in my family move me on Aug. 13, all they’ll have to take is the furniture, and possibly a few really heavy boxes – like books.
I just feel like this is the beginning of my new life down here. Thanks for listening.
abby"

This is fabulous news!! Good for you!
I have such a fond memory of the Shenandoah Mountains. It is one of my favorite places. As we were traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway a deer (doe) stood in the middle of road. We were amazed at her insistence of remaining there stopping traffic both ways. Why did she not flee? we asked ourselves. The answer came a few minutes later as the tiniest fawn I had ever seen stumbled over the low stone wall that borders the parkway. She stopped traffic to protect her offspring who couldn't have been more than a few hours old.
Good luck with the move Abby. I love imagining you with a cup of tea looking out at the mountains.
@amberpep, Congratulations Abby! I hope things are wonderful and everything is peaches and cream for you there..
As ever, Diane (Dani)
Hi abby....just saw all the latest on your life....i have not checked in for a while so i am trying to catch up. You are not "whining" at all. My goodness...it is so nice to hear you share your ups and downs...i think that's why we are all here. I am beyond thrilled to hear about your new apartment and i think this will give you a whole new "view"on your life...not just a view of the mountains. July 4th is way too noisy, i agree. Spend the official Independence Day celebration by celebrating your own new independence. You don't need fireworks for that. Blessings.
