Anyone had success with estrogen patch + radiation for stage 3C?
Has anyone had success with an estrogen patch - plus radiation - with Stage 3C prostate cancer? My 83 year old, otherwise healthy husband has recently been diagnosed. Would like to know what to ask oncologist when we meet in 4 days. Thank you.

Estrogen patches can replace ADT completely or be an addition to it in lower doses to help lower the side effects of ADT.
If you go to this link https://ancan.org/ you can watch a video about using estrogen/estradiol.
You can go to this link to find out a lot more about estrogen use

5 ReactionsWassersug has been using it for long time. It sounds almost ideal compared to some of the horror stories associated with the normally prescribed ADT. A drawback he points to is that every patient will have to experiment to find out how to apply an adequate dose. He says the question a lot of docs come back with if a patient presents convincing data that estradiol patches or gel is a good way to go is, what dose? He talks about very frequent testing and adjusting how much. I haven't found out how often testing would be required, and how costly all this testing might prove to be.
@climateguy Thanks so much. Radiation oncologist today said my husband’s recommended medication is a testosterone blocker, not a dose of estrogen, therefore the patch would not work. We may get a second opinion.

You’ve been given bad information. The estradiol patch is just as effective as hormone therapy, but has many fewer side effects. A person that wrote A well-known book on ADT has been on estradiol for 22 years. It has worked really well for him and many other people I have run into.
If you look on the web for the patch trial, you will see that has been tested and proven to be just as effective as ADT in that clinical trial.
Here is a video from Richard Wassersug PhD About using estradiol instead of ADT. After that is some more information from the same person.

I can bet he never heard of estradiol being used for PC treatment , and I can not even blame him - the whole community of PC doctors are keeping it "under the rug" on purpose, or out of convenience, or for profit reasons, and probably 95% of them all never even took time to read about it or are even interested in learning new things.
Unfortunately I do not see how one can get estradiol patch prescription when NOBODY is having it used in that way except for a few "authors" who obviously have private doctors who are open to that treatment and I doubt those doctors prescribe it for others patients too. There are thousands of patients here (many just read and not participate) and nobody so far came to say that they are using estradiol : (((.
It is just so unfortunate on so many levels - there is available and safe and cheap medication with minimal side effects and it is ignored completely. It is almost a case for some kind of class action against the whole medical community !
OK- it is not FDA approved for PC, blah blah blah - every single medication can be prescribed "off label", it is done every day at doctor's office, why is this simple and cheap medication kept as a "taboo" of some kind ?
Unless we as patients start demanding it and making waves it will never happen !

I know at least four people that are using estradiol instead of ADT. One of them is in Alaska. It seems that some doctors are open to it, but people probably will have to really press the doctor that this is an option that is more desirable And they want to do it.
I do know people that have added estradiol patches to their ADT and it has really helped. One guy at the meeting two weeks ago talked about how he tried different amounts of estradiol, The patches have different percentages. He found a a good middle where it stopped his hot flashes and also stopped his bone loss. He was even able to build a little bit of muscle. That’s probably a lot easier for people to work with their doctor to get it approved.
