The most important foods you can consume for eye health with AMD from the research literature;
1. Salmon - 3 times a week -filet or salmon cakes . Fish like sardines or anchovies . If I eat pizza I use real anchovies for a topping.
(Chicken is simply neutral )
2. eggs - the yolk in particular
3. Kale and spinach - cooked steamed. I have kale powder I use from Frontier foods for soups.
4. Mostly eat Lentils, beans, brown rice
Japanese rice cooker can be used for whole meals -just lay protein on top of rice to cook and add spices.
5. Herbs -turmeric, parsley ( tabouli) saffron
6. All yellow vegetables --corn squash and peppers
7. Coffee is beneficial
8. Yogurt and berries fir dessert
MacuGuard is Areds with saffron not zinc. Life extension. This is what I am taking now. Only 3 party supplement testing that's trusted is Consumer Labs- a paid service but worth it. It is their recommendation. I still use mega vitamins like NAC , PQQ and NMN etc. I still use a telemed preventive medicine MD for bi -annual consults that I pay out of pocket for and he prescribes one longevity prescription- low dose 5mg weekly rapamyacin . Cost about 1k a year total.
My sister's AMD went to wet and it was just a week ago that she announced this and is receiving anti veg shots. It scared me. She smokes and has a poor diet. My intermediate dry AMD of 10 years on is stable and I am seven years older and a non smoker . I really work at trying to keep the AMD stable . However, my main failing is not exercising which is very beneficial for circulation and the retina. I need to improve.
@sjs1 thank you so much for this great information. I follow a very similar eating plan. I don't take supplements yet but I have heard of macuguard. I also use consumer labs for information. They are great. Congratulations for keeping your AMD stable. I am trying to prevent further drusen and advancement. I am going to another retina specialist next month and talk to them more about supplements and I will ask about macuguard. Again thank you so much for all the information. It is very helpful.
