Hello all, I'm Alyce. My husband has been dealing with chronic pain for the last 5-7 years. He has had cervical and lumbar spinal surgeries in the past 2 years, which as been structurally successful. Thankful for some relief in pain provided by his Mayo Clinic surgeon! Side effects from surgeries such as burning nerve pain in his lower extremities and sciatic nerve pain are now issues. Also new symptoms of pain in his thoracic spine are now occurring. He's a trooper! I know chronic pain is prevalent and I empathize with all who are dealing with it. Being a spouse to someone who is suffering from daily chronic pain is most difficult. Giving a shout out to all those people who are trying to support a loved one who is dealing with with chronic pain.

@landrew62 Hello Alyce. I'm sorry to hear about your husband, and you, having to deal with chronic pain. I feel the same about my wife that is putting up with me for over 2 1/2 years now, trying to find my source of pain. She is the best researcher a husband could ask for!

I see you mentioned it has been 5 to 7 years, but you didn't mention what your husband has used for the pain. I had Lumbar Spinal Fusion surgery last year, and just as you stated for your husband, I am repaired structurally. However, the second week after the surgery, I was having nerve pain in my lower extremities so bad, I did not sleep for 4 nights straight.

I went to the ER on day 5, and I was prescribed Lyrica. My surgeon's assistant wrote me a prescription for 75mg capsules 3 times a day (morning, noon, night). This helped with my pain almost from the first full day of taking the Lyrica. After two days, I was finally sleeping. And I also had a side effect, I guess you would call it, of sleeping better than I had in over a year.

So, I don't know if this was ever tried, but I would ask his doctor about it if it hasn't. Good luck out there, as many are seeing over the past couple of years how bad the system is getting.

@landrew62 He's lucky to have you! I went thru most of my 25 plus years & beyond, alone. This is daunting & i don't recommend doing this. But i found socializing very difficult, due to physical constraints & reactions by the opposite sex, to my walker & their perceived limitations I am not a good one for recommendations. I get getting more & more issues, until i ended up with my C3 thru Sacrum fusion. & i still have problems. I wouldn't recommend more surgery, as he's likely to get more horrible side affects. And being fused from neck. to sacrum, is a recipe for disaster. He may have Arachnoiditis, which is a horrible side affect, from too much surgery Just because you go to the Mayo Clinic, i would seek other recommendations
