I’ve been taking AREDS2 for about 10 years, upon the recommendation of my ophthalmologist. I presume he is thinking it might be protective against future vision problems. I trust him, the pills don’t bother me, and I can easily afford them (at Walgreens). So I’m happy to take the gamble. (Note: I do now have some Drusen.)

Regular AREDS2 capsules do contain zinc. But I just read (in Wikipedia) that one can purchase each of the components separately, and thus avoid the zinc. I suggest that you consult with a pharmacist. Also, contact “Preservision” which is the brand that I use, or another reputable brand. And look on the Mayo Clinic website for information about the drug.
