My cancer is back...
2 years ago in January i was diagnosed with ovarian cancer that had spread all over...i went through chemo, multiple surgeries etc...by Oct i had NED...
well about a month ago i started having pain in my pelvic area, then in my upper abdomen.. , my CA125 was still at 18 the week before my pain started (which concerned me because it had been between 8 and 12 but what do i know LOL) so doctors weren't really concerned but i kept telling them something was wrong... the final thing which i think made them agree they needed a scan was when i told them i had started having that "balloon deflating" feeling every time i emptied my bladder in addition to the pain which is EXACTLY the feeling i was having that caused me to go to doc with a persistent UTI 2 years ago and led to the original diagnosis
finally they ordered a CT scan which i had done last Thurs... and it showed 2 spots in the pelvic cradle one measuring 1.0 cm, one smaller and 2 on my liver... so needless to say...i'm going back on the same chemo i took before since i responded so well to it next Thurs... i am NOT thrilled BUT had i not kept insisting that something was wrong they wouldn't have found it so quickly..
I had NOT been on a parp inhibitor because it doesn't "play nice" with my seizure meds so Mon i saw a neuro who is changing my seizure meds after 25 years to something that does ...lets just hope it controls my seizures as well as the one i've been on for that many years...
Not looking forward to the chemo regimen again but on the plus side i know what I have to look forward to, and you know what really sucks? my hair has JUST gotten long enough to put in a ponytail again...oh well at least i kept my favorite wigs lol...

@mommacandy The porcelain throne? 🚽 😂. I can see that your sense of humor will get you through this and anything else you encounter. Good to know that how you are feeling yesterday and for a few days is about right according to your care coordinator.
The cranberry bread with ricotta cheese and sour cream? My mouth is watering as I think of the combination of those flavors. That wouldn't last a day in my house!!
As for hiccups, I recall several discussions here on Connect about chemotherapy and hiccups. Here is one that our awesome Connect Director, Colleen Young, @colleenyoung started and is contains a lot of posts.

Did you have hiccups the first time around with chemotherapy and steroids?

1 Reaction@naturegirl5 according to those around me, they remember me having them ...i don't remember but those "nearest and dearest" remember my "non stop complaining about them" LOL... but now i know what causes it i can deal with it...aka asking for something different or something next time!!! those things are a BEAR
no the bread didn't last a day lol...it was really good,,, today was the day we opened the clothing ministry and i was soooo grateful to have a couple of friends come and volunteer to help...Lord knows i couldn't have done it today without them...hubby was laughing because he SWEARS i was standing in front of him at one point, closed my eyes, and dozed off ...can't swear i didn't, i know i did doze a couple of times curled up in chair...thanks to the pain meds of course... only one visit to the throne to worship today... simply because i didn't get the zofran in fast enough i think ...but oh well..
i had packed a couple of peeled boiled eggs along with some homemade black raspberry jam to have today.. well for whatever reason they got mixed up in the tupperware...so i hade rasp flavored boiled eggs (aka purple egg whites LOL) ..it was rather weird looking but actually tasted surprisingly good... hey don't knock it til you try it...it was one of those things i craved when pregnant 35 years ago!!! I craved black raspberry jam with everything back then.
So today has been interesting...I can't thank you all enough for being here to support me and my moods...to laugh along with me and remind me i'll get through it when i'm struggling...

6 Reactions@mommacandy I like raw and cooked spinach but when I don't feel well that's the last thing I want to eat.
It's been a few days. Are you starting to feel less nauseated?

1 ReactionUpset stomach, hiccups, inflammation:
I didn't do well on Zofran. Mase me very constipated, which is very hard to get over between infusions. Now I only take 1/2 a pill before chemo. Metoclopromaide is a nausea med. prescribed: I take it only for five days (before meals). Dexamethasone, that ugly steroid: I take it in 1/2 doses (one pill a day, with food, for five days and 1/2 a pill on the sixth.
These changes improved my nausea, hiccups, and gas and burping. In addition, I've had no real issues with constipation of diarrhea -- something I REALLY struggled with, so much so that I told my oncologist that I would have to stop treatment.
I have no pain, but I have endometrial cancer, and therefore don't know about pain associated with ovarian cancer.
Food: I stay away from processed meats, as they contain carcinogens, and I eat very little red meat--if I feel tired I'll eat some stewing beef. High fat foods disagree with me, contributing to nausea and acid reflux and heartburn (same thing?). Fruits help a lot with both hydration and pumping vits. and minerals into your cells. Low-glycemic vegs. also are important.
Diary is low on my list of food choices, even though I it used to be my main source for calcium. I'll eat low fat yogurt and low fat milk in my coffee, though. Sometimes, I' eat some cheddar cheese with an apple.
These strategies may help you too.
I hope this helps

1 Reaction@mommacandy I thought I'd check in with you this morning. How are you feeling today? And how is the weather where you are?
@naturegirl5 well its nice and rainy here in East TN, and yes i am doing MUCH better... appetite is doing ok, only occasional batches of nausea, the metallic taste is triggering that today, not the same nauseous feeling as a week ago...if that makes sense... the metal taste arrived i think it was thurs but most assuredly on the upswing...tired...you bet i am... but took a load of stuff up to my son an hour north of here yesterday and drove both ways (since hubby HATES driving my xterra cause its a stick shift, he can drive them, just hates them esp in the mountains) which is of course where i learned to drive so to me its second nature... but he went along and so i got my "covered truck" as he calls it emptied out of all the stuff i had loaded for my son lol
Got out and went to church this morning, been to the clothing ministry sorting donations after church and now plopped on the couch til church tonight... i'm supposed to sing tonight so we'll see how that goes lol... so yea i'm definitely doing better.... tbh its really nerve wracking.... if i'm already feeling this good, does it mean chemo #1 gave it a good punch or is it not working as well as before....but they told me after day 8 i would see a good upswing in how i felt so definitely hoping its the former...
thank you for reaching out and checking on me...
