Leakage after Prostate Cancer surgery: Concerned about travel and pads

Posted by eshan @eshan, Feb 26 1:34pm

I am 77 years old. Had a robotic surgery in middle of Feb. 26.
The surgery went smooth. Now I am having leakage issue after Catheter removal. I do Kegels exercise several times in a day. I walk 2 miles everyday.
I am using pads and diapers. I have to change pads several times a day.
My question is how difficult is to travel for 3-4 weeks ? I long I have to use pads & diapers ?
Thanks

2 to @eshan yes check out the list there is great information here and support
you may want to check out https://www.auanet.org/guidelines-and-quality/guidelines/incontinence-after-prostate-treatment
it is a long read so just skip to recommendation for post protatectomy this is what urologists are supposed to read and pass on to their patients. most men face incontinence
3 "While the majority of patients experience mild to severe UI immediately following catheter removal, there is a rapid decrease in leaked weight during the first 18 weeks following RRP. Patients continue to improve out to 1 year with greater than 90% having minimal leakage" by International Continence Society criteria. from Boston Medical center Urology https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC1800860/

eshan,
You're still early days. I was having almost identical symptoms as you at your stage. I'm 5 weeks post surgery and I'm down to one pad per day. So there's hope.
Good luck!

BTW, I drove myself on a 2 hour round trip on Monday and had no problems.

My husband had his prostrate removed June 25’ and still has daily issues: he’s got electrical therapy plus a clamp and sill no change.. also E D issues.. you give up a lot but it’s better than alternative.. our son , 56, had his prostrate cancer treatment with radiation.. he now had blood clots … so next he’s going thru hyperbaric chamber therapy.. I’m frustrated.. as are they , lost in the medical world for now

Thank you very much. I can live with one or two. Now I’m at 5-6 pads per day. If I am sitting then it doesn’t leak but as soon as I get up it starts leaking.
Good luck to you.

I am so sorry to hear that. Sometimes it is in hands of god. I will pray for him and your son.
Do what you can do.
Thanks for sharing your story.

You just have to give your body time to heal. I am 4 months to the day post RARP and down to one light pad per day if not active and 1 heavy when I run, golf, etc. Almost all of my squirts are stress induced (sneeze, run. swing golf club, etc.) It will definitely get easier over time!
