Stem Cell Therapy for Arthritic Knees

Posted by tropicallady1276 @tropicallady1276, May 10, 2017

I am a 77 year old woman with arthritic knees where it's difficult for me to walk and I'm trying to avoid knee replacement. I have done the Synvisc injections and physical therapy-- to no avail. Is there anyone here who has had stem cell therapy for arthritic knees and I would like to know your outcome. I know there are two, one where bone marrow is removed and the other where they take fat from the abdomen and regenerate and inject into the knees. I would like to know the cost and how long the procedure takes and any other information which would be helpful to me. I live in North Jersey and am currently looking for clinics in my area who perform this procedure. I appreciate your help.

I'm eager to learn about PRP-- exactly where does this procedure all start. Again, I'm trying to avoid knee replacement on both knees. I am 79 and do not want this surgery. Looking forward to hear back. Thank you all for your input.

To sturgeon-- This information is so helpful to me and helping me to zero in on a procedure other than knee replacement. Now I will look to find a doctor in my area in North Jersey who will do this procedure. Thank you.

Thanks for the input win sturgeon. I have a few questions for you. How long ago did you have the treatment? How long did it last, were there any side effects, was it painful, where did you go for treatment, and can you recommend any articles I should read about this treatment? Thanks.

Had it done in Toledo with Dr Kruse. PRP was done last year, stem cells about three years before that. No side effects, no pain, i would check Mayo Clinic and Regenexx websites for info. I have noticed Regenexx has on site people to talk with and they are all over the country . What i like is they publish their research and success and failures on various types of the body. Had a friend who visited Mayo and she said Mayo is recommending PRP first and then if needed, Stem cells. I had it done in reverse. Research being done everyday but do not get sucked into the bad actors who buy stem cells over the counter.

Make sure they use your cells. No baby tissue etc. Try prp first

@tropicallady1276 /USC Dr. said - Stem cells r like a gallon of ice-cream - u take scoop and put in 1 joint - take another scoop and put in another joint, take another scoop and put in another joint; I had 5 scoops put into 5 joints. Did not cure bone on bone knee, but, @ 2 weeks later felt rejuvenated - stood strait, less pain - Stronger, better balance, alive like my former self. Loved the feeling. Had it done in Manhattan Bch. CA. $3500 for stem cells (could have had Many joints injected) / / /$500 for PRP. Try just PRP first, see what happens?///

Deciding which way to go with my left arm have a rotator cuff tear I have been doing the prp on the arm this past year now they said put stem cells and also prp for tge next 6 months
There is two ways to go do tge same as my knees
Regenexx which is placenta or my own fat cells from my stomach
I’m told that it’s better with the fat is better from your own body fir arms to me I’d think tge fresh new ones since mine are old
But then tge dictirvsaid your own body reproduces cells each day
Very confusing decision
