Stem Cell Therapy for Arthritic Knees
I am a 77 year old woman with arthritic knees where it's difficult for me to walk and I'm trying to avoid knee replacement. I have done the Synvisc injections and physical therapy-- to no avail. Is there anyone here who has had stem cell therapy for arthritic knees and I would like to know your outcome. I know there are two, one where bone marrow is removed and the other where they take fat from the abdomen and regenerate and inject into the knees. I would like to know the cost and how long the procedure takes and any other information which would be helpful to me. I live in North Jersey and am currently looking for clinics in my area who perform this procedure. I appreciate your help.

I neglected to say I have seen progress for my friends and for myself. My first contact with stem cells was from a web site from Mayo Clinic on arthritis. I have had it on my knee and on my back. I say it’s up to everyone to read the research and make the decision that suits themselves. Good luck.
Thank-you for the information. Before I get my hopes up do you know if they will turn me away if I have bone cancer in the same knee?
I've read on Mayo that there is a 40 to 70% improvement in pain and function w stem cells.
Does anyone know how long this will last. Will I need more cells in the future?
Or Will I need knee surgery in the future?
i had a booster shot after 3 years. think if they knew the answer insurance would pay or not pay for it.
How much does it cost?
varies from place to place. I paid $7,000, i know others who have paid more and some less. Depends on location and dr.
Wow! that's a big bet!
yep, i had one knee replaced and vowed not to do that again. It was worth it to me. Pick your poison.
@lillyanne, unfortunately, I cannot answer that question. I only learned of the process of what happens when a member or patient calls and what they can expect. I do not have the medical expertise to answer specific questions. I think it would still be worth your time to give that number a call during regular business hours and ask them your questions. I'd love to hear back about what you find out and I suspect the other members would as well.
I just picked up this thread today while researching stem cell treatment for knees. I am scheduled for staged knee replacement but would definitely consider stem cell treatment. I live near Jacksonville FL. Please let me know of any doctors here that do this. thanks
