Since I read research. My neuropathy has been in reverse. Whenever I Have a fiber test by same person it is better than the precious test. It has taken awhile,

And for those of us interested in this topic: In searching, I'm reading that although they are related, acetyl l carnitine (ALCAR) and l carnitine (ALC) are not the exact same. It is ALCAR that is most recommended for neurological issues.

I am so glad that ALC is working for you!

There is research backing up the use of ALC for peripheral neuropathy.

Just a word of caution for those on thyroid meds, it is generally advised to avoid ALC if you have hypothyroidism. This is because it may potentially interfere with thyroid hormone activity.

With that caution,, here is a brief description of how ALC might work provided by ai mode summary of current research and standards:
"Unlike many medications that only mask pain, ALC targets the underlying causes of nerve damage.

Mitochondrial Energy Support: ALC transports long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria to be burned for energy (beta-oxidation). This provides the "fuel" needed for damaged nerves to repair themselves.

Nerve Regeneration: It stimulates Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) and increases the density of nerve fibers in the skin, physically helping nerves grow back after injury.

Pain Signaling (Epigenetic Effect): ALC can "turn on" specific genes (mGlu2 receptors) in the spinal cord that reduce the release of glutamate, a primary chemical responsible for transmitting pain signals. This helps lower the overall "volume" of chronic pain.

Antioxidant Protection: It neutralizes reactive oxygen species and reduces oxidative stress, which is a major driver of nerve damage in conditions like diabetes."
