Dental work while on Reclast?

Has anyone had dental work done while on Reclast? Any problems, particularly if the dental work involved an extraction or an implant? A published survey found that cases of jaw necrosis occurred two or more years after beginning Reclast, but six years or more for patients on Fosamax.

This is a major problem with osteoporosis drugs. The No Dental Work- oral health is critical.

I do not believe that is accurate. I had surgery for a dental implant and the waiting period for a Reclast infusion was 5-6 months, not years!

I have been on Reclast for two years. Needed an extraction, one graft and implant/crown. I consulted with my endocrinologist and he advised that I could proceed with all. Antibiotics were prescribed as a precaution. I’m six months out and all is well.

I have several implants 2 of which were placed in the 4 years, a couple root canals and old crowns replaced. I was on Reclast( infusion once a year for 4 years). I just waited 3 months after the infusion to have the implants placed or the root canal. Those were in 2022. I have had no problems with any. I have been on Teriparatide since April 2025 and am going to have one more implant later this year.( I have no history of breast cancer/treatments, no fractures now aged 67 almost 68).

I am looking for the comment regarding Invisalign while on Reclast. I saw it earlier but my search isn't bringing it up.
This thread on dental work while on osteoporosis meds is really important, and my dentist thinks there are no concerns. I'm on my last 5 months of Forteo, and am researching and mentally preparing to start Reclast as per my endo's recommendation.
In the meantime I've had dental work done (crowns) with no issues, but at age 75 my lower teeth are becoming noticeably more crooked. They were slightly crooked most of my life, and my bite is becoming so off that I'm experiencing chipping. I've consulted with two orthodontists for a consult on both Invisalign and standard braces. I really wish I didn't need to do this at age 75 (!) but I also want to have good teeth as long as possible.
I would love to hear from anyone who has braces/invisilign while on osteoporosis meds and their experience.

I have come to the conclusion that there is no perfect osteoporosis medication....yet. Maybe some day. It seems every one of them has a side effect.
But, where would we be if there were no medications at all? So I'm thankful for the choices that are out there.
Anyway, I did have Invisiligns top and bottom during
Prolia and then TYMLOS.
I can't think of any reason why any treatment would interfere with Invisiligns.
It is simply a matter of molds, Xrays and the actual Invisiligns.
Unless if you are having extractions or implants, I would think you would be just fine and happy to have a beautiful smile!!
