Are you taking Reclast for osteoporosis?

Posted by Becky, Volunteer Mentor @becsbuddy, Jul 21, 2020

Two years ago I was diagnosed with pretty bad osteoporosis because of the prednisone I was on for my autoimmune disease. I started taking Fosamax (a bisphosphonate) and had no problems. Today, the endocrinologist suggested that I switch to Reclast for 3 yearly infusions. Has anyone else taken this drug? What side effects have you had?
Thanks

I am having my first Reclast infusion tomorrow. I am grateful that I came upon this thread as there are more positive posts regarding the side effects. I suffered my second compression fracture a month ago. First one 7 years ago. Tried Fosomax but could not tolerate the esophageal discomfort. Sadly the use of supplements, diet, and exercise did not help me with my bone health and I havw had a steady decline of my DEXA scores. I have been so fearful of the drugs but have to do something. I'm 68 years young and otherwise healthy. Thanks for the tips on preparing with hydration, an antihistamine, and Tylenol. Had Inot read all your stories I would not have known.

@harborside24 Reclast infusion completed yesterday at 4:30pm. So 15 hours in. Aside from just feeling a little off, a bit tired, so far so good. I will continue with hydration, Tylenol, and an antihistamine. Thank you for asking 😊

@ginger1957 I had reclast infusion in November 2025. 3 days later headaches and my blood pressure went out of control. I am still battling this problem with high blood pressure because of this. I never had a problem with blood pressure like this before.

Hi
I have three spinal fractures in my thoracic I have been on reclast for 4 years. I do not have any side effects from it my bone density has not gotten worse. I make sure the night before I drink an electrolyte drink at least two bottles and lots of water during the day. I have to go 1 hour out of town to get my infusion. So when I get home I drink another bottle of electrolyte drink and I also take Tylenol the morning of and I have been good.
