Any success stories about Evenity to share with fearful me?
After acquiring 2 compression fractures, I am biting the bullet and going for my first Evenity shot in 2 days. I am afraid of everything from heart palpitations (I have AFIB) to muscle spasms and joint pain and everything else . Has anyone been ok on the shots? Or only had minor issues? I would love to read encouraging words. My REMS scores were ok: hip -1.0, spine -1.2, but my DEXA scores were much worse: hip -2.8, spine-4.8, so I feel I have little choice now. Many thanks.

@callmekate - I just had my 8th Evenity injection. I've been on a localized vaginal low-dose bi-est hormone cream for about a year. I have an appt in April to see a new dr to discuss options for systemic HRT. I've also been attending a class designed for those w/osteoporosis, which will also end in June unless I decide to renew w/another 4-mo commitment ($$$).
When the Evenity course is over I plan to continue my gym routine (based on osteoporosis class exercises that I learned) and start taking the over-the-counter mineral Strontium Citrate.
I've read so many success stories as well as medical publications regarding the efficacy of either HRT or SC (or the combination) for bone integrity improvement on the Inspire forum, that I'm willing to test it out for a period of time. Then I will pay for a REMS scan to see how I'm doing. I can always go back to request the next recommended drug.
My next DEXA scan is scheduled for June when I get my last Evenity injection, so I will be able to see how much I gained thru the combination of very challenging resistance exercises as well as the drug. I feel like that will provide a good baseline from which to shift approaches. Like you, my endocrinologist is not a fan, but ironically my friend's endocrinologist recommended SC to her in lieu of a bone drug.
I realize that there are many variables for each of us--supplements, nutrition, severity of compromised bone integrity, fracture history, etc. But this is my pending plan for now.

I had my 3rd pair of Evenity injections today. In addition to severe osteoporosis I have fibromyalgia & Sjogrens. I have also had 4 spinal surgeries.
I definitely had an increase in pain since starting Evenity. The pain is happening in joints that never hurt before. My usual painful joints have been on fire.
I spoke to my rheumatologist about this and he said tgat Evenity is the best thing available.
I am wondering if people who completed the 12 months of treatment feel better?
@gobigs Great to hear Evenity helped you. I am still having painful side effects and I have only 3/12 months completed.
@margaretisabel i initially use ice on the injection sites and later switch to alternating heat & ice. I also felt better when i was going to PT.
@bzenbren that really sucks, I’m thinking your pain syndromes have everything to do with it. I still believe it’s the best option side effect wise. Forteo made my joints so bad and so did Fosamax after the Evenity. I’m now on Prolia and am doing ok. I hope you can find some relief.

2 ReactionsI've had 2 Evenity injections so far. I get them in the doctor's office. I had significant arm soreness after the first set of injections but the nurse administered the second set of shots in the abdomen and that was much better. Some tenderness but not bad. She also pulled it out of the refrigerator 30 minutes ahead.
I have severe osteoporosis in my spine (T score -3.6). Two years ago I was at -2.8 and went on Boniva but didn't tolerate it. I was just using calcium with minerals during the remaining year and half until my next Dexa scan when I found out I deteriorated.
My rheumatologist told me that if my osteoporosis was less severe, she would have prescribed something else.
I had to get a cardiac screening to go on Evenity.
As I understand it, it's not a self-administered drug.
My rheumatologist told me if I didn't want to go through with the cardiac screening or if I failed the screening, she would prescribe Forteo but that requires 18 months of daily injections. I didn't want to do this. The medication needs to be refrigerated and I do travel where the hotels don't have refrigerators in the rooms so I didn't want to do that one.

1 ReactionI have tried probably every osteoporosis drug in the past. My osteoporosis is quite severe. It looks like I’m probably going to be going back on Prolia But I’m hopefully getting an appointment with my rheumatologist to see if he agrees with this decision.

4 ReactionsI have had approximately seven compression fractures and I have severe osteoporosis. I just finished my year of Evinity And my bone density results were extremely good. I had no side effects from the Evinity. I would definitely give it a try

That’s so good to hear. I’ve heard a lot of stories about difficult treatments that I’ve been nervous about starting. I don’t have a choice - I will need spine surgery again at some point - but the idea of more pain in more joints is distressing.
Thanks for sharing.
